Going out on a limb here. Don't know much about her yet - but I'm thinking I might want her to run against Bill Nelson in 2012 for US Senate. Could you imagine Rubio and her (the dynamic duo)?

Take out Mr. Airhead Bill Nelson.

Opinions?

It would be nice to know where she stands first. She was a gutsy pick by Rick Scott.

After ObamaCare was signed - Mason Dixon did a poll to see who could beat Nelson in a mythical matchup in 2012.

I think it was Rubio, Jeb or McCollum and Crist. Note that Crist was falling apart then. All of them - even Crist would have won.

Crist could have, at that point, stepped aside, try to act like a Republican and maybe run in 2012. Crist is really dumb and thank God he is gone.

I am not pushing this - “we must have more non-Caucasians running for the GOP to insure we are not racists” It is like reverse racism - pick the best conservative person.

I am not as huge as some pushing Rubio, Jindal et al. There are a lot of great GOP “whites” too like Ryan, DeMint, Pence, Bachmann. We really need to get away from race and we are doing a better job then the racist Dems.

However, Alan West is a real conservative, more than Rubio. He needs some experience but he would make a great Senator.

I looked up her voting record on the Florida website when Scott nominated her, and I didn’t find a thing I disagreed with. Seems conservative to me. I was impressed. Of course I could have missed something. She seems to have the aura of a Mama Grizzly. I hope Scott will get her out in the public eye.

There’s one thing where being excited over a black Republican is not necessarily reverse racism: A Charlie Crist or Rick Perry can simply follow the path of least resistance up through the Republican ranks, and emerge as a typical, compromised, compromising, statist hack. For now, black Republicans are likely to have demonstrated unique courage, independence and intellectual vigor to arrive where they are: successful Republicans in a political climate where the color of their skin makes them a target for all sorts of hatred by, ironically, the supposedly racially enlightened. Someday, this will no longer be so: Barry Bonds is not the hero that Jackie Robinson was. Some day, if there are enough successful black Republicans, some hucksters who happen to be black will see the Republicans as willing to give them credit they have not earned. But for now, the Jennifer Carrolls and Allen Wests out there — as well as the Walter Williamses and Clarence Thomases — at least grab my intention.

Jeb might run for Senate, not President, but he might run for Senate. And he would have a very good chance of beating Nelson.

Crist is done. Forget about it.

McCollum might give it a shot. Not quite sure what his chances might be.

That’s good to know. Alright let’s draft her to run against Nelson. It’s never too early.

Jenifer Carroll and Husband are both retired military and from what I can gather, very conservative, as to whether or not she would make a good Senate prospect, well, who knows?

2 yrs as Lt gov is not typically a springboard into the Senate.

And the thing is, I also do not care for this idea that “because they would be a minority Republican Candidate, they would make a good candidate”, that is DemThink imo.

Conservatives prefer merit and that is something that “we” should stay consistent over.

I know I’m shallow but.... She continues the idea that Republican women are better looking too! Pretty lady.

Not good. He's a long time state politician who lost a primary to an unknown with modest local ties, and in the process had his guts ripped out and splattered across Florida TV screens while he cried in the background.

For real, though, he's been in politics way too long and is waaay too comfortable compromising his positions and looking the other way for his establishment buddies.

McCollum is also the guy who ran the crappy race in 2000 that put Bill Nelson in the US Senate. He's lost two(!) statewide GOP primaries and a general election in the last 10 years.

No, just no.

Republicans need to aggressively recruit so called minority candidates and promote those who are deserving to positions of leadership.

In addition republicans and conservatives need to hone the message. Define the American dream, American exceptionalism, constitutional conservatism.

Articulate minority spokespersons able to articulate conservative principles will go a long way to breaking the Democrat grip on minority voting blocks.

She’s an immigrant turned American. Was born in Port Of Spain in Trinidad in the West Indies.

Carroll and Rubio show the GOP is not just an Old White Man’s Party.

I agree that it's unusual to run for another office just after being elected to one, but it does happen.

As for qualifications, either her military record OR her record in state government qualify her for the Senate. The combination, plus now being elected Lt Gov, make her supremely qualified.

Number of firsts. First black female Republican elected in FL, then Majority Whip and Deputy Majority Leader. And now she’s FL’s first black elected statewide official. She’s destined for greater things.

Very different from Obama. People just like her. Shrewd choice by Rick Scott!

The first Hispanic female elected Governor (Susana Martinez, R-NM) The National Press IGNORES it (recall the slavering slobbering over Sotomayor THE FIRST just 5 months ago). And now the first black Lt. Governor (of either party), and how do we find out about it??? From the Lakeland Ledger, for crying out loud!!

"It would be nice to know where she stands first. She was a gutsy pick"

Gutsy? Why? Because he was risking the national press to metaphorically rape her? Lucky for her (and Scott) the word never got out until now---and really, the word still hasn't gotten out.

Personally, I could not say that, she has not taken the oath of office as of yet so her performance is a big unknown.

Add in, the last Lt gov to Senate candidate was Michael Steele in MD, he came close, but no cigar, and MD is a far less expensive state to have name recognition across the state.

Give Carroll some time.
