California has crossed the tipping point where way too many voters are on the public teat—either dependency programs or public workers. The dwindling productive class is no longer in control of its own destiny if it stays in California. They will be taxed to death until the Ponzi scheme finally grinds to a halt at some point within the next decade or two. Then, of course, they will scream for a federal bailout to keep the scam going. That is the battle we have to be ready for.

From Mark Steyn:

“In California, Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown have beaten Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman, two Republican candidates tailored for the Golden State, professional, centrist, and without any of that establishment-disturbing Tea Party craziness like certain lady candidates in Delaware and Nevada. And they both lost. I think we're seeing in California the limits of the democratic process in a Big Government state. The statist workforce and the dependency class can outvote the productive class. And, given the number of Californian small businesses who'll be ordering the U-Haul in the morning, that electoral gap will only widen in 2012 and beyond. California is Greece: The arithmetic does not allow for meaningful correction. The question is whether Texas and other non-insane states will volunteer to play Germany to Sacramento's ouzo-swiggers.”

I think we're perilously close to this situation in Oregon and Washington too.

You are exactly correct. California is way past the point on no return. Adding to the problem with public employees and public teat suckers is the explosion of the Mexican population who vote more than two to one Democrat. Mexican immigrants (most of whom are illegal) and their children are big time teat suckers. Somebody should ask Karl Blove how adding millions of illegal immigrants to the voter roles can possibly help the Republican party.

"Then, of course, they will scream for a federal bailout to keep the scam going."

But now the Republicans have the key to Obama's "stash"!

Deja vu....

Your analysis is correct. As long as politicians take from producers and give to those who vote for them, the ballot box cannot rectify the problem.

California has crossed the tipping point where way too many voters are on the public teat—either dependency programs or public workers. The dwindling productive class is no longer in control of its own destiny if it stays in California. Succinct and right on the money.

Californians have voted to continue an unsustainable lifestyle for a simple reason -- they can. They have the votes, and the state has the money to support them -- for now. Their attitude is, "If we go down, the Feds have to bail us out. We're too big to fail. What are they going to do? Let us turn into Greece? Bosnia? Northern Ireland? Mexico? No way they'd let that happen. They'd never let Bleeding Kansas happen again."

I have a modest proposal. If California -- or any state -- demands a federal bailout, there should be a price. Because the voters have proven that they are not ready for republican government, the federal government should invoke Article IV, Section 4, in which the states are guaranteed a republican form of government.

The state should lose its statehood and regain its former territorial status. Its senators and congressmen should be expelled from Congress. Its governor, legislature and judges should be fired and replaced by governance from Washington, like all federal territories. The federal government should call a constitutional convention for the territory, or perhaps split the territory into governable units and have each new territory hold a constiutuional convention.

From there the usual procedure would be followed in admitting new states.

There is some precedent for this. When certain Southern states refused to ratify the 14th Amendment in 1868, Congress threw them out of the Union and converted them into military districts. While this was a violation of everything Lincoln had fought for, tempers were high. In 1939, the Supreme Court had an opportunity to comment on this in the Coleman case, but the Court wisely decided to keep that can of worms nailed shut.

Perhaps a constitutional amendment would be required for this, but there might be enough precedent to lay down the law to California.

You are correct. California is a lost cause. Let it die. At least with a GOP Congress fighting its own deficit problem, there should be no bailout when Gov. Moonbeam bankrupts the state next spring. After all the businesses shut down and the rioting subsides, maybe we can salvage something from the wreckage. But for now, let it burn.

It is amazing how leftists, liberals and muslims can take a beautiful place and bring it to ruins.

You are right. The majority of poor (illegals) are all on welfare and whatever else possible they can get free, and the Dems are the ones who give them everything. When I heard Jerry Brown tell us all that he would be giving free university education to everyone, whether legal or illegal, I knew we have had it. Taxes will go through the roof, worse than what we have now.
California is a lost cause.
