Carroll an Inspiration (Florida's new Lt. Governor)

LAKELAND | Jennifer Carroll has the distinction of being the first black female Republican elected to the state legislature. She made history again Wednesday when she became the state's first black lieutenant governor.

Florida's new governor, Rick Scott, called Carroll, 51, a "history-maker and a barrier-breaker" when he announced her as his running mate in September.

And while Adrienne Frazier, a teacher at Southwest Middle School in Lakeland, is a Democrat, she agrees that Carroll is an inspiration.

"As a black woman, it makes me confident to see someone who is representing my gender and race in such a powerful position," Frazier said.

Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields, who made his own history as the city's first elected black mayor, said Carroll is very talented and capable of the position.

"I think it is a reminder that perseverance, determination and the will to succeed is still very important, (regardless) of the color of the envelope or the package you come in," said Fields, a Republican. "She has done a very masterful job. It wasn't that she was black; she brought something to the table."

When she joined Scott's campaign, Carroll was the only black Republican in the legislature. She was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. She emigrated to the United States as a child and served in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years, retiring as lieutenant commander, having served as an aviation maintenance officer, according to the Scott campaign's website.

U.J. Johnson. . .said he would feel better about Carroll making history if she was a Democrat. He doesn't see how her selection is going to benefit the black community.

"If she is of that persuasion, the thoughts are going to be different from mine," said Johnson, a Democrat.

This is the only negative and dismissive comment about Lt. Gov. Carroll in the whole article and, naturally, it comes from a dem. Dems are just so tolerant, diverse, and inclusive of others' ideas.

Rick Scott’s great... FL GOP voters learned their lesson about nominating RINO scumbags like Charlie Crist.

I wish him and his running mater Jennifer Caroll the best!

Democrats are racist...

They don’t accept a minority might just have their own thoughts. If you’re not a leftist, you’re not “authentic.” How charitable of them!

Michelle and Barak Obama and progressives will never mention her and NPR will never interview her. The American people, though, are getting wise about what NPR actually is.

It is Republicans like Florida's new Lt. Governor who will help further increase the GOP's diversity.

It's a shame that most Blacks don't know the racist history of the pro-slavery, pro-KKK Democratic Party, and also have lost touch with the abolitionist roots of the Republican Party.

Freedom is Opportunity.

And only those who think like Mr. Johnson could possibly benefit the black community./sarc

Wishful thinking won’t put McCollum back in the picture, get over it already. Do a little research of your own and you will come to a stunning revelation as those “mounting lawsuits” will be thrown out as unfounded if in fact they ever make it to a docket in the first place. The rules are not the same as Alaska in Florida.

Democrats treat thinking blacks who embrace conservative principles as slaves running away from the Democrat plantation. Democrats heartly hold dear to the Dred Scott decision and treat blacks as their property which cannot be taken from them.

In retrospect, GOP voters made a shrewd choice nominating an outsider - it fit the year perfectly even though McCollum finally felt it was his turn. The last thing the FLGOP needed was a local Bob Dole. And Rick Scott helped to save the day.

From the full article -

“U.J. Johnson, who is the historian for the mostly-black Florence Villa community in Winter Haven, said he would feel better about Carroll making history if she was a Democrat. He doesn’t see how her selection is going to benefit the black community.”

Where to begin in educating this so-called “historian?”
