What Republicans Need to Do Now
Pajamas Media ^ | Nov. 3, 2010 | Adam Graham

Tuesday’s elections swept Republicans across America into office, but what do freshly elected Republicans need to do next?

1) Realize They’ve Not Sold the American People

Victorious Republicans should enjoy their election victory, but they should also understand it does not mean that the American people have bought wholesale into conservative political philosophy, as is so tempting to believe after a big election. After George W. Bush’s victory in 2004, Hugh Hewitt wrote Painting the Map Red. After 2008, James Carville wrote 40 More Years: How Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation. Both books turned out to be overly optimistic political pornography that played to the fantasy of what victorious political activists wanted to believe rather than what really happened.

The American people have not been sold on conservatism any more than they were sold on President Obama’s left-wing philosophy when he was elected. The waves of the last three elections indicate Americans are unhappy with both political parties. Voters expect a competent, responsive government that does not tread on their rights. They have not been given that.

This does not mean conservative ideas can’t be put on the table. On the contrary, the ideals of limited government and economic opportunity are essential. However, any legislation needs to be approached with the understanding that the American people have not already signed off.

2) Develop a Communications Game Plan

Democrats have traditionally sacked incumbent Republican governments when the Republicans failed to plan how to communicate their actions to the American people.

The first thing they need to do is vote to repeal Obamacare, then follow that with a vote to extend the Bush tax cuts for 10 years...for everyone.

Give Obama a 2yr extension on the bush tax cuts. Dare him to veto it.

Then proceed to chip away at Obamacare, spending, nutty finance regulations. lather, rinse, repeat.

Republicans have already stated that they have $100 million in budget cuts for the very first month. They need to follow that with an additional $100 million in cuts for each and every month that follows until we get the deficit down to under $200 billion. With current spending in place, we will face total collapse within half a decade.

Defund the entire Federal government.

States invoke their 10th amendment rights and tell their citizens to stop paying Federal Income Tax.

States make it illegal for companies to take Federal Income Tax out of employee wages.

States then tax their own citizens the appropriate amount to pay for the only things the Constitution allows the Feds to do - protect the borders and insure free trade across state lines - and then pass that along to the Feds. (Divide what border protection & trade regulation costs by the total number of US citizens then multiply that number by the states population.)

If the Federal government still refuses to protect our borders, then the states can keep that money and do it themselves.

The vote was against expansion of government power and debt. That was it. Any more than that will require a successful marketing/sales campaign. Don’t make the same mistakes the anti-Constitutionalists made.

I think you mean billion, not million. One hundred million is hardly enough to put up Obama's entourage for half a day in India.

Yes, I meant ‘billion’. A billion here and a billion there and pretty soon . . .

Mandatory voter ID for voting in federal elections.
Mandatory vote verification for every precinct with more registered voters than voting-age citizens.
Maybe even mandatory death sentence for vote fraud.
This crap has got to stop.

Give the illegals 60 days to get out of the USA. Anyone caught in the US illegally will serve 5 years in prison in an Arizona tent.

Pass a Bill announcing that babies of foreigners born in the US are foreigners.

Pass a Bill announcing that English is the only accepted language in US government offices. Foreigners are to provide their own translators.

Give the United Nations 30 days to get out of the USA.

Abolish the NEA and EPA. Draw up a list of 10 more and the dates when they will shut down.

Get rid of this “Politically Correct” attitude and speak the truth.

Teach all children to speak proper English, Blacks included.

It’s just an opinion of someone “on the right” writing an article. I didn’t even say I endorse all the article says. Calm down.

Americans have given a green light for smaller government. They’re not just sure the GOP will make it happen.

Make some real changes on my two pet peeves:

(1)NO MORE midnight votes! NO MORE voting on bills without reading them or publishing them on the web for all to see. NO MORE voice votes - if you can't vote for a bill on the record for all to see, then vote NO.

(2)NO MORE separate laws for government employees! Sorry, Congressmen, I can't trust you to administer my health care or retirement plans when I know you've set up your own, independent plan for your oh-so-special selves. Social Security and Medicare is good enough for you - if you can't live with it, I can't either.
