Illinois Challenge for Military Ballots

As work gets underway Monday morning, members of the House Administration committee will receive a letter from Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady. The letter urges an investigation into shortcomings of election districts tasked with providing absentee voters, specifically combat soldiers, ballots in the time required by law.

"I respectfully write with an urgent request for the House Administration Committee to investigate serious deficiencies in the nationwide implementation and enforcement of the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act of 2009," writes Brady.

The MOVE act is an amendment to the 1986 Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act ("UOCAVA"). The key element of that act is the requirement that ballots be sent 45 days ahead of the election, creating ample time for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan to receive their ballots and mail them back in time to be counted. That means ballots needed to be mailed by September 18th.

In 35 out of 110 Illinois voting districts, they were not. At least one district was 20 days late.

The new GOP majority House had better follow through with the investigation of Holder and his DOJ.

Every VFW, every veteran, military families, we must all DEMAND that this be investigated and prosecuted. This is an outrage!!!

If anyone knows who we can express our demands to for an investigation into suppressing the military vote, please let us all know.

Yep. It's this same whining every election cycle, and then the GOP does nothing about it. I want full hearings starting in January by the new GOP majority, election workers in these precincts subpoenaed, and people prosecuted if there is sufficient evidence. The Dems have gotten away with this crap for far too long, and the GOP is just as culpable, IMO, for not doing anything substantive about our military personnel serving overseas being disenfranchised in election after election after election.

This won't stop until people start going to jail for not following the timelines mandated by statute. “We forgot” simply does not cut it. Nothing gets my blood boiling more than thinking about some limp-wristed liberal laughing to himself as he violates the law by not sending out military absentee ballots.

I agree, people are going to have to be prosecuted for ignoring the law and we now have a MOVE Act re military voting which Holder and thugs have done their best to ignore their responsibility to enforce.

Congress has oversight and I believe they’re the only ones who can take action against DOJ.

Yes, prosecute. It will only get worse until they pay, pay, and pay for their corruption. Ditto for the media crooks.

Thanks for reminding me. I just called my congressman urging him to call for a “scorched earth” investigation as soon as he wins tomorrow.

There has to be severe consequences for this so that it never happens again.
