I am an American citizen living in Israel. I sent my and my wife's absentee ballots in to the St. Louis County Board of Elections this past Tuesday. I sent them using international express mail because I needed the ballots to be at the Board of Elections by this coming Tuesday. On the 25 or so previous occasions that I have used express mail to mail to the US, the mail would never take more than four business days to arrive at the destination. I could track it on the internet. It would leave Israel within 24 hours of sending it. It would go in and out of US Customs in less than 24 hours, and it would arrive at its destination the following day.
This time it arrived in New York at 6:30 AM Thursday morning and went immediately into US Customs. It has been in US Customs for two business days and over the weekend. It is still there stuck in Customs, and it is now past 9:30 AM New York time, Monday morning. I am sure that the ballots are being held up by someone or some people that know that we voted Republican, and they are purposely preventing the ballots from reaching their destination on time. What can I do? Can I sue?
You signed up today? Do you have any kind of proof of these claims?
There was a thread on FR a couple of days ago with a website and telephone number contact to report voter fraud and voting problems. Do a search and call and ask for help from one of the attorneys on call.
FYI to everyone - Reporting Voter Fraud
The Republican Party has set up a National Hotline, which will be staffed with Attorneys to handle polling issues as well as possible voter fraud or intimidation.
1 - 888 - 775 - 8117. IF you even SUSPECT this is happening, PLEASE call for their free advice.
Perhaps the inventory of FR accounts used to stir things up is being depleted? OTOH, perhaps this is legit. Either way, its up to this "victim" to pursue.
I’m sure if you were voting from Iran, Obama would let it get through.
Haven’t you heard?
Overseas absentee ballots, especially from military posts, are being trash-canned for this election.
Meanwhile, illegal aliens will be allowed to vote as often as they like. Even the dead ones.
Now don't quote me on this as fact because I have never used this method to vote, but I'm pretty certain that the postmark date is what really counts in this case, not the date they arrive. As long as you made the postmark date I believe they are supposed to be counted. If someone knows differently please correct me on this.
Good luck, I hope your ballots make it!
LOL! They are going to vote for Obama anyone. Obama still has the majority of the Jewish vote. Even the rabbis love him.
I just have the tracking numbers for previous express mail mailings where it clearly shows that they were in US Customs for no more than 24 hours. Of course I have the tracking number for this mailing.
I cannot prove why they are holding up our ballots, just that they are. They know that these ballots are from Israel because of the return address. And they know that they are ballots because of where they are addressed to. Of course they know that these were time sensitive documents.
you obviously have a tracking number so pass that along to the folks at the number in post 4. It may be that the postmark will be the saving grace but that depends on local election laws. Good luck.
I actually flew in from Israel to cast my vote. (I also had other business.)
Despite my screen name, I now vote in Florida.
I’m not making excuses for FedEx, But the system may have been slowed down because of the bomb materials found in packages from overseas locations.
That would have resulted in some delays as everything aboard all of those UPS planes has been subjected to intense scrutiny.
People usually don't think "Mail" when they think of UPS, but UPS rents space to USPS and other postal administrations throughout the world ~ just like every other airline!
FedEx isn’t the shipper. The poster clearly stated International Express Mail. RIF.
Not every newby is a troll.
I suppose the same could apply to a FedEx plane, so my previous post may have been a little too snarky.
Yep, at any rate this sounds like a valid concern.
