Mohammed is now the most popular name for newborn boys in England and Wales

England and Wales have a big problem! And it's name is Shariah.

No we are not.

Mohammed only becomes ‘number one’ when you lump together every tortuous variation. This means no more about British ‘surrender’ than the millions of British boys and girls with Irish names in the 70’s-90’s meant Britain had surrendered to the IRA.

Isnt it notable that Americans make more of this trivial story than the British themselves?. Couldnt be that we dont see a reason to get hysterical, could it?.

Then why would they say Oliver and Olivier were the #1?

They blow up so fast, don't they?

Gives new meaning to the term 'baby boom' doesn't it?

It only means that all Muslim babies are named Mohammed and all the other Anglo-Saxon, Scottish, Welsh and Irish parents have thousands of choices.

What a stupid study.

Think George Foreman!!!!!

It means that the fertility rate of Muslims living in the UK is much greater than the fertility rate of the non-Muslims.

I have some Scottish background -- if I had a son, I might name him Andrew, or Donald. I have no Muslim background at all -- there is absolutely zero chance that a person like me is going to name a son Mohammad (spell it any way you like).

Europeans are not replacing themselves through lots of children. That's why a name like "Jack" is no longer on top. Muslim immigration and Muslim reproduction is winning the day. That's why you have a lot of Mohammad's.

Surrender may not be the right word for what Europeans are doing, but the Arabs have more faith in their future than some of your compatriots have in their future.

The Muslim population is about 1% in the UK. Therefore, the 1% of 706,000 births is about right.

The article suggests that non-Muslims are naming their babies Mohammed - which is nuts and misleading!!!!

The reason for the difference in percentages:

This article states that Mohammed is number 1 because...
The name, when 12 different spellings were included...

The other article states...
Mohammed ranked 16th nationally for boys...

The Daily Telegraph probably didn't run the search using all permutations of Mohammed. Now...did the Daily Mail use all permutations of Tom, Dick and Harry? Probably not. I suspect the Daily Telegraph did likewise.

Hey, FRiend. I think we’ve conversed about this before. Somewhere out “there” in the web is an analysis of what happens when the percentage of Muslims reaches certain points. IIRC 2% is the first danger point. As more and more children are born to Muslims, your side (of the pond) gets closer to that danger point.

It could be I’m not familiar enough with British culture to know that non-Irish Brits in the 70’s-90’s would not name their children Irish names. Is there truly a trend in GB for non-Muslims to name their child a variant of Mohammed? Even so, this would be disturbing since the name itself is very symbolic of at least a belief that Islam is harmless. Did this same impression exist re: the IRA?

I wouldn’t consider my reaction hysterical, but it certainly is troubling. I see a growing Muslim population similar to playing with fire. One may not get burned immediately, but make it a practice and burning there will be.

Duh. It’s because only the Muslims are the only people having baby boys (and girls).

I detect a fair bit of sarcasm in your comment. Pray, tell, what could you mean, “allegedly”.
