VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A body found along the side of the road in Virginia Beach Tuesday morning is that of off-duty Norfolk police officer Victor Decker, police confirmed to WAVY.com.WAVY.com has learned Decker was one of seven Virginia officers who received the 2009 VACP/VPCF Award for Valor . In March 2009, Officer Decker was on bike patrol when he confronted two armed men wanted for a robbery and deadly shooting. One of the suspects fired at Officer Decker several times. He returned fire, hitting one of the suspects. That suspect later died.
There is no motive for Officer Decker's death at this time, according to Virginia Beach police.
He leaves behind a wife, his high school sweetheart, and 8 month old infant daughter.
He won several awards for valor in the 4 short years he was an officer in Norfolk. He ran towards the gun shots that night he single handedly took down two men who murdered their robbery victim on the streets of Norfolk.
He wanted nothing else but to be an officer since he was a boy.
I know this family well and they are hurting so badly. I am at a loss for what to say to my best friend.
He was murdered off duty. Over what? His wallet?
That suspect later died.
Did the dead thug have thug friends/relatives?
A revenge killing, perhaps...................
This is so sad. I heard on the news last night that he had been at a benefit for breast cancer earlier in the evening. I will pray for his family, his wife will need loving family to help raise this sweet little girl.
A complete tragedy and all too frequent around this Hampton Roads area...the inmates are really trying to take over the asylum these days. The idea of his body lying on the side of the road in Va Beach is repulsive...
A shout out to you, submarinerswife from a surfacewife. Thanx for the info...
This is so sad.....*lifts up the family in prayer*
