Snowe Supports Expanding Fee to Increase Broadband Access (RINO Snowe wants to raise your taxes)

The Maine Republican senator says like the telephone, the Internet is a basic service that everyone should have access to.

Maine Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe says she favors expanding the reach of a "fee" that's been charged for years on telephone customers. Snowe and other members of Congress support adding the fee to cable and wireless phone bills to raise money to assure broadband Internet access in rural areas.

"I've been a big advocate of making sure that rural communities have access to broadband," she says. "Because it's similar to telephone service, and what the Telecommunications Act was all about when it was created in 1934 was to extend the basic communication service to all."

So let's see if we can figure this out... we raise the price of broadband by taxing it, so that we can make it more affordable for everyone.

Ok.

IDK the whole situation, I do know that broadband access in the vast majority of Maine is horrendous, most people can only get maximum service of single pair DSL.

"most people can only get maximum service of single pair DSL."

I have single pair DSL that's 5mb(they offer it up to 10mb) where I live. I believe that's plenty fast enough for what I, and 98% of the population use the internet for.

I wonder if she toasts herself in the mirror for being so altruistic with other peoples money. I swear most American politicians and bureaucrats don’t have the moral stature of the most common muggers, prostitutes and dope peddlers in our private sector.

What’s wrong with satellite internet ? Other than the fact that you have to pay for it yourself ?

Ever used a satellite ISP? Lousy latency makes a lot of secured sites time out, and then there’s the wonderful world of FAP.

Satellite isn’t broadband.

“Snowe is NOT a RINO...she is an out and out PROGRESSIVE and must be dethroned.”

Sadly, I do not foresee the citizens of Maine ousting either Snowe or Collins. Personally, I wish they both would go on over to the Dem’s side so the GOP could be done with them.

Now that is an insult to those professions...at least one knows the outcome by dealing with that ILK. With the politicians it is another story.

She calls it a “fee”? Thats pretty funny. Under no reasonable definition is this a fee. Its a TAX! If you couldn’t tell, it irks me when any politician tries to hide a tax by calling it a fee. It’s so dishonest and par for the course.

"With the politicians it is another story."

I guess one could say they have a "Dorian Gray Syndrome." They make Faustian bargains to show the world a beautiful face, while the picture of their true evil nature is kept hidden in the attic. It drives me crazy to see how so many of them seem to really believe their own BS.
