You need to check out this video of US Congresswoman Betty McCollum leading the pledge of allegiance on the US House floor. What the video shows is what her staff and campaign workers are trying to deny happened. Betty intentionally left out "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. Her staffers are trying to say she was taking a breath of air and it just looks like she omitted "under God". But after watching the video it is clear she intentionally omitted the phrase. As a representative of the Americans in her district, she is showing utter contempt for our country and God. I guess she is also supposed to be using her Catholic faith as a point in her re-election bid.
Follow this link to watch the video, and you decide if she was taking a breath or intentionally
omitting the phrase" under God" from the pledge.
Taking a breath my lilly white arse.
Hmmmm, is she atheist?
That she makes an excuse is far more telling than the omission of words. I hope her constituents take note of how cowardly she is.
She must be a lying atheist.
It’s funny that the secular humanists/socialists/marxists/atheists
are so convinced of the superiority and “rightness” of their ideas
that they’ll never admit to actually being
secular humanists/socialists/marxists/atheists
However, according to a resolution passed by Congress in 1954, they are now officially part of the Pledge.
Regards,
She took no breath. That was a deliberate omission.
I’m wondering why she would do such a thing, unless she’s a bitter athiest or just trying to show support for Obama.
Does anybody know when this was recorded? It seems to me that this happened with a Democrat congresswoman a while back. Is the same one or has it happened again?
Sorry, I find that perfectly acceptable.
If she doesn’t believe in God, including the phrase is hypocritical - and dishonest. The appropriate thing to do is leave out that phrase, or not say the Pledge at all. If she wants to pledge allegiance to our flag & country yet not be a hypocrite, the omission is logical.
BTW, “Under God” was added June 14, 1954.
A little pledge history here: http://www.homeofheroes.com/hallofheroes/1st_floor/flag/1bfc_pledge.html
intentionally omitting it is one thing...bold face lying aout it is another....if you have a belief then stand up for it and take the flak that comes with it....the heat only gets worse when you try to lie after the fact...she should have just passed on leading the pledge to begin with....
>>If she doesnt believe in God, including the phrase is hypocritical - and dishonest. The appropriate thing to do is leave out that phrase, or not say the Pledge at all.<<
I agree with you about leaving out the phrase if she doesn’t believe in God. However, because she’s an elected member of Congress I also believe that she must say the Pledge of Allegiance to the country that she has been elected to represent. Absent that, she should tell us to what country she owes her allegiance so that her constituents can send her packing.
Also, MN 4th is shown as a SAFE Dem seat on Real Clear Politics (one of only 123 such seats currently.) If this video gains traction it could put the seat in play, especially if she emphasizes her religion (Catholic, according to one comment here I think) to any degree whatsoever on the campaign trail. A lot of Midwestern politicians frequent the church dinners so common in the fall, for instance. Obvious religious hypocrisy would weigh against her, I suspect.
Anyone clued Drudge in on this video yet? I’d bet he’d run with it, provided it’s not years old.
I was wrong. The source of the Catholic comment was from the article running the video where the writer states: “Oh, did I mention that she likes to brag about her Catholic faith when running for re-election?”
You can tell from the cadence of the pledge that “under God” was an addition, as lobbied for by the Knights of Columbus, during the height of the Cold War - to differentiate us from those godless Communists.
I can see someone who learned it pre 1954 reciting the original version from memory, but she wasn't pre 1954.
I don’t care if she was born in 1930. If she left out the “under God” it was intentional, and not just a trick of memory. 56 years is long enough to learn to include it.
Again, I have no problem with her doing what she did if she has a strong atheistic belief, but the odds are strong that she wouldn’t want a large share of her constituents to have a clue about any such belief.
What a person feels about religion is a personal matter. I don’t even care if they “go along to get along” by saying “under God” even if they’re not all that religious. But if they have a strong atheistic belief, yet look for votes by proclaiming a Catholic faith, then they’re blatant hypocrites and should be noted as such.
Here’s the one explanation I would buy from her: (Unfortunately, she didn’t come up with it) IF she objected to the inclusion of the words “under God” in the Pledge due to its coercive nature (requiring a belief in God to support one’s country) AND had shown past evidence of that position, THEN I would understand her reason for omitting the phrase when she personally says the Pledge, and would support her position. Note that this would also allow her to be a strong Catholic, i.e., no hypocrisy involved.
I personally don’t think “under God” should be in the Pledge of Allegiance, by the way, though I routinely say it each and every time I repeat the Pledge. It was a mistake to put it in, but it will be nearly impossible to take it back out. It will take a “Nixon goes to China” environment, where a devout Christian President explains his/her reasons for removing it (the reason stated above; it’s coercive and is unrelated to a pledge to support one’s country.)
By the way, should a devout Christian President ever actually contemplate such a move it would be worth going ahead with just to watch all the liberal talking heads explode on screen.
Cognitive dissonance at its best.
LOL!
Should they?
VIDEO: Red Skelton Pledge Of Allegiance, 14 January 1969
I: Me, an individual, a committee of one.And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:PLEDGE: Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.
ALLEGIANCE: My love and my devotion.
TO THE FLAG: Our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job.
UNITED: That means that we have all come together.
STATES: Individual communities that have united into 48 great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country.
AND TO THE REPUBLIC: A state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people, and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION: One nation, meaning "so blessed by God."
INDIVISIBLE: Incapable of being divided.
WITH LIBERTY: Which is freedom, the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.
AND JUSTICE: The principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
FOR ALL: For all, which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: "under God." Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools too?
