A Texas woman was denied the right to vote on Monday because she was wearing a button bearing a Gadsden flag — the rattlesnake under the words “Don’t Tread on Me” that has become the unofficial image of the Tea Party.

Interesting, considering we have already seen FLOTUS electioneering inside a polling place.

and everybody knows about the Black Panther case. Now people are being turned away simply for being associated with the Tea Party.

In 2008 millions & millions voted with Obama clothing on.

If voters are wearing the Muslim Messiah’s face on a button, would they be allowed to vote? If so, the feces should hit the fan!!!

It’s fine not to allow buttons in a polling place, as long as it’s enforced evenly. Polling places are supposed to be free of ALL electioneering. Yeah, Shelly O was wrong too, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay for Mrs. Gadsden to push the envelope.

I’d be pissed if I saw someone in a polling place wearing a button that said “SEIU Supports Democrats” (for example).

Take your “flare” OFF — go in and VOTE — and then put it back on.

It’s stupid and counterproductive to make an issue about this.

Don’t Tread on Me flag is almost as part of our heritage as Old Glory!

I don’t think you are supposed to wear political items to a polling place.

The First Lady can encourage others to vote for her guys, why can’t this woman wear a pin?

Such is life in Obamaland.

Report it to Drudge and the Conservative talk show hosts; exposure and pressure is the name of the game.

Perhaps there are Freepers who are working on campaigns who can advise how to force this to be investigated and those involved prosecuted. All proof must be saved to get the guilty investigated.

Agreed. A couple of years ago I was denied entry to a polling place because I had on an old Dallas Safari Club hat. For those that don’t know, their logo is an elephant’s head.

I hadn’t even thought of that. I took off the hat, stuffed it in a pocket so the logo didn’t show, and was permitted to proceed.

This isn’t any different. No electioneering materials or anything that even looks vaguely like electioneering materials should be allowed anywhere near a polling place.

As long as it is evenly enforced, I fail to see the problem. I’ve seen people wearing blatant Dem propaganda being turned away at my local polls, too.

I think your analogy is flawed if the description of the button in the article is accurate. Unlike your hypothetical SEIU Democrat button, is does not name a party affiliation or a candidate, for that matter. It was once a national symbol and, I believe, the first flag of the United States Marine Corps. It’s a far cry from electioneering which I agree should be banned from polling places. It’s apparently a case of an over-zealous poll worker, who if not identified and corrected, may wrongly deny the right to others as well.

I suppose wearing this is out of the question then:

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I gave blood once and was wearing the little “I gave blood” sticker they give you. I then went to vote and they challenged the sticker! I explained what it was, they explained back that they contest ALL buttons & stickers.

They did let me vote.

I’ve had to take off my badge for work and a masonic pin before when I voted. I think a lot of polling places are pretty strict with enforcement across the board, almost to a fault.

>> I think your analogy is flawed

I think you’re right, for just the reason you explained. I could have chosen a better hypothetical example.

>> if not identified and corrected, may wrongly deny the right to others as well.

On this we disagree. The poll worker did NOT deny the voter the right to vote. All they had to do was remove the damn button and then vote! It makes me mad when libtards speak of “disenfranchising” voters because they have no ID. Well, the argument that disallowing a voter to wear a Gadsden flag button is “disenfranchising” them or depriving them of their “free speech” is equally silly.

FRegards
