You know, everybody misquotes that scripture. It is talking about hypocritical judgement.

Consider the following, from the very same passage of scripture.

Matthew 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

We are actually called upon to judge, but to judge righteous judgement, that is, not hypocritically. If you can make no judgements, how can you even determine right from wrong?

There is eternal judgement. THat has been given to the Son of God.

Then there is righteous judgement. Not judging by how someone appears, whether rich or poor, educated or ignorant, but how he behaves. That has been given to the believer to choose the correct way to live in this world and to preach righteousness, and that NOT hypocritically. If you don’t like the preaching of righteousness, then don’t mention the Bible.

There are many scriptures in the New Testament that warn against hypocritical judgement. And many will bring those up without any balance with the scriptures that call for righteous judgement.

Here are just a few of the scriptures that encourage righteous jugement.

Luke 7:43 And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Matthew 23:23 for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith:

Acts 4:19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

Acts 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. (How can you do this without righteous judgment?)

1Co 10:15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

1Co 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

1Co 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

Php 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

How about these warnings?

Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

1Pe 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Ro 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

1Co 5:9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators (Hollywood “stars” are nothing if they are not fornicators).

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

2Th 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

There is much, much, much more. How can we discharge these responsibilities without making some sort of judgement?

I have chosen only New Testament scriptures to show that righteous judgement is not “just Old Testament”.

I cannot judge Bristol’s soul. I cannot judge her eternal. destiny. I can, however, judge her behavior, as long as I am not hypocritical about it. In fact, if I am hypocritical, I must first correct my own sinful behavior and THEN admonish others about that behavior.

I choose in my life to abstain from the appearance of evil. Am I perfect? No. But you won’t find me watching any dance shows or encouraging anybody to do so.

So, you are pure and without sin and can therefore cast judgments because you are holier than everyone else?

Must suck to be you...
