There’s news from Oklahoma today of an earthquake which has struck with a magnitude of 4.3. The quake was actually felt across 5 states and was one of the strongest quakes ever in Oklahoma, with only 3 stronger since 1907. The US Geological Survey recorded the quake hit at 09:06 am around six miles away from Norman, Cleveland County. The earthquake was also felt in parts of southern Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas and it appears that fortunately there have only been 2 people reported to have minor injuries, according to Murray Evans in an Associated Press report over on Chron.com.

Police Captain Leonard Judy of Norman said, “We had a couple things fall off the wall here at the police department. We all ran outside to see if something hit the station or something like that.” There were reports only of minor damage, typically things being shaken from shelves. One resident of Pottawatomie County, James Baxter, was in his trailer when the earthquake hit and said, “The stuff on the wall shook. The dogs took off barking. I thought the world was coming to an end, to be honest. It was pretty trippy.”

UPDATE – We have just heard that the earthquake magnitude was updated to 5.1 according to NewsOK.com, which means this was the second largest earthquake in Oklahoma history.

For more on this go to chron.com. Were you in an area where you could feel the earthquake? If so we’d like to hear your experiences of the quake so please do send us your comments.

>>>New Mandrid?

Not connected to New Madrid... however, that area has seen some increased seismic activity in the past week or so.

I've never been in a quake over 4, but dang, it would take a lot more than vibrating bowling trophies and barking dogs to make me think the world was ending...

I have been in an earthquake over 6.

And lots of after shocks.

The thing of it is, when I feel one since those days, the two questions running in my head are, 1 - When will it stop? 2 - Will it get stronger?

It is very unnerving.

The strongest I’ve felt in PA was a 2.5.

I thought my grandson had tumbled down the stairs.

My two daughters were in an 8 in Seattle. Shortly thereafter, they both moved back east.

Just a precursor to the 8.0 that’s going to hit Washington D.C. on Nov 2.

There are some reports of cracks in older buildings, and state workers are out checking all the bridges.

But only 2 minor injuries,TG.
