More than 100 friends and family of missing Coloradan David Hartley stood on a sidewalk outside the Mexican Consulate on Friday chanting "Bring David home" and "Justice for Hartley."
David's sister Nikki Hartley and his sister-in-law Tia Young joined in a march from Four Mile Park to the consulate at 5350 Leetsdale Drive at 1 p.m. The two later met with Consulate General Eduardo Arnal.
"We're encouraged that we have a line of communication open," Nikki Hartley said following the hour-long meeting. "They were accommodating to our questions."
Marchers wore matching T-shirts emblazoned with "Bring David Home."
"Hey, guys," yelled Kevin Pollock, 30, who knew David Hartley since they were in preschool together in Loveland. "We're only here for one reason, and that's to bring David home."
Mexican and U.S. federal agents are investigating a report by David Hartley's wife, Tiffany, that they were attacked while riding WaveRunners on Falcon Reservoir to a Mexican church south of the U.S. border and that David was shot and killed.
"My opinion of the Mexican government is they have been uncooperative," Pollock said.
But in an interview following the march, Arnal said his country is doing its utmost to find David Hartley's body and is conducting a thorough investigation.
"We will spare no technical or human resources to find David," he said. "Starting on the day of the incident, we have been working with U.S. authorities."
He said the Mexican army, navy and federal and local police are involved in a very thorough search.
Dispelling earlier statements by some Mexican police and prosecutors questioning the veracity of Tiffany Hartley's explanation of the shooting, Arnal said Mexican investigators are not doubting her story.
"The Mexican authorities do not prejudge the outcome of the investigation and do not pretend to know the motives of Mrs. Hartley," he said.
Several friends and family members of David Hartley said they are skeptical that Mexican authorities have done all they could in part because of dangerous conditions on the border.
"Mexican police are afraid to conduct searches because of threats to their safety," Nikki Hartley said.
Family friend Shelly Edwards said it's apparent the cartels are in control on the border.
"I'm just shocked," she said of David Hartley's shooting. "You never think of something like this happening. I'd like to see our government get more involved."
Arnal said part of the problem is that when U.S. citizens buy illegal drugs, they fuel the violence and murders. Cartels buy rocket launchers and other heavy weaponry with drug money.
"This is the largest market in the world for drugs," he said. "It's a problem that needs to be solved with international cooperation. We need to work together to defeat these criminals."

This eyewitness account of seeing the boat giving chase is key. If the witness saw the chase, Hartley is at least telling the truth about that aspect of the incident. Fox has also reported that the Hartleys were briefly stopped by police on their way to the lake, because they were driving a truck with Mexican plates but their jet ski trailer had Texas plates. The couple did live in Reynosa, Mexico, until a few months ago, but the violence there led them to move back across the border to McAllen, TX. So their license plate situation doesn’t suggest much, in my opinion. They were let go after the brief stop and went on their way.
Sheriff Gonzalez also says that he has retrieved blood evidence from Tiffany Hartley’s life vest. Put that evidence together with the witness corroborating her story of the chase, and her story overall looks more solid.

Sheriff Gonzalez is treating Hartley’s story as truth, and has throughout the week since it happened.
On Fox News Channel Thursday, another victim of Falcon Lake piracy came forward and said that Hartley’s story fits what happened to him on the lake a few months ago. He’s Dr. Richard Drake, and he was fishing on Falcon Lake when pirates ambushed him. Here’s his interview with Megyn Kelly. Again, he wasn’t on the Mexican side of the lake. He was out in the center, on the Texas side of the border, when he was ambushed.

DPS releases video of man reported killed on Falcon Lake
ZAPATA — The Texas Department of Public Safety released a video Friday showing the man reportedly murdered on Falcon Reservoir just hours before his apparent death.
A trooper pulled over David Hartley and his wife, Tiffany Young-Hartley, at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, after noticing their trailer’s tags had expired. He let them go with a warning.
The video shows at least three troopers stopping Hartley’s white truck in Rio Grande City. A trailer carried two Jet Skis. One trooper asked Hartley about his Colorado license.
“Been working and living, well, temporarily living in McAllen,” Hartley said. “I was in Reynosa for about three years but they moved me back to McAllen because of all the (inaudible).”
After about nine minutes, the troopers let Hartley go with a warning.
Young-Hartley said her husband died on the Mexican side of the lake, leaving the search and any eventual prosecution to Mexican authorities.
Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said the investigation so far has indicated Young-Hartley is telling the truth.
“Our information is indicating that the witness is reliable, the witness is truthful,” he said. The possibility the witness is not telling the truth “is always there, but the probability is very, very, low,” he said.
Evidence corroborating the wife’s story includes a tiny smear of blood on her life vest, Gonzalez said.
“Other evidence has surfaced,” he said. “I’m not at liberty to discuss it at this time, but it does indicate that she had nothing to do with” David Hartley’s death.[snip]

My guess is that either the thugs who murdered Mr. Hartley or the Mexican government have secured the body and disposed of it. Therefore, the Mexican government has “plausible deniability,” and can claim that Mrs. Hartley simply imagined the entire incident. “
That’s the typical MO. An American father searched across the border for his daughter, who disappeared after she and a friend went down for the evening. The Mexican police would not help, our government was silent. Finally he found her car in the local Mexican Police compound. The case has never been solved. There were several that year.
It will be a very cold day in hell when I believe anything coming from the Mexican government.
They will never return the body or the jet ski since they have accused the wife of making up the story.

It is not surprising that foreign governments like Mexico would play for their interest. What is wierd is that the US political powers would play against our Nation’s interest. The insects preying upon America are us. Nothing seems to stop them.
