"MENTOR, Ohio – Sladjana Vidovic's body lay in an open casket, dressed in the sparkly pink dress she had planned to wear to the prom. Days earlier, she had tied one end of a rope around her neck and the other around a bed post before jumping out her bedroom window.

The 16-year-old's last words, scribbled in English and her native Croatian, told of her daily torment at Mentor High School, where students mocked her accent, taunted her with insults like "Slutty Jana" and threw food at her.".....

The comments on the story are as horrible as the story itself. Things like “bunch of racist hillbillies,” “rich upper scale people who treat people like dirt, think all immigrants are their servants,” etc. Lots of comments trashing the family as well. Sad.

If this is representative of the attitudes of the area it’s no wonder they have suicide problems.

Make any and every sacrifice you must to take your children out of the tax-funded, union-run government schools.

The government school is best understood as the Bus Ministry of the State Church of Nihilistic Humanism.

The “school district” is best understood by it’s Marxian name, the “school collective”.

Come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord.
2nd Corinthians 6:17

The liberals have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams: we have become a nation without a moral compass.

You're right.

When the family tried to retrieve records about their reports of bullying, school officials told them the records were destroyed during a switch to computers.

Shazam, how could that have happened? Could they be lying?

We have an entire generation with no conscience, effectively sociopaths. Taught by a public school system administered by soul-less socialists.

Speaking from experience, it has been my considered opinion for a number of years that the public school system cannot be fixed in its present form. Start over from scratch.

Some of the administrators I dealt with did not have the logical reasoning capabilities required to successfully operate a lemonade stand. And a few, IMO, should have been serving time.

Yes, but when school officials ask for more tax money, the American people rush out to the polls to vote more taxes because it is “for the children.”

I can’t place when it happened, but at some point it went from taboo to awesome to be a bully. When I was a kid, I got picked on for being fat and nerdy, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. Then again, the Internet consisted of America Online for us.

Today’s kids are completely numb to violence. The proliferation of increasingly violent television, culturally stereotypical behaviors as seen in rap videos, and the ho-hum attitudes of the “Hippie parents” have turned kids into sadistic, hateful little imps.

And this in the city of James A. Garfield. People in OH must be still uninformed. It’s “Lord of the Flies”, OH style.

Wow Kim,They must be on drugs to act like that.

You might be right. My relative was an attorney and after my fathers funeral people told me that he and his wife were giggling by themselves during the funeral. Later we found out my relative was on crack.

Given that this is AP, I’d take this story with a grain of salt. I see that of the suicides that AP has listed, most had a gay theme going. AP then runs the story to appear that the kids were bullied, and that was the cause of their suicides, but it is entirely possible that these poor, misguided kids were tormented just as much by the wayward identity that they were undoubtedly encouraged to develop. A boy who is a little confused about who he is? Well, by all means, let’s get the faculty together to encourage this young man to wear pink and be flamboyantly feminine, to explore his “gayness”. What? He killed himself? Well, it must be because he was bullied! It couldn’t possibly be because of the confusion that we encouraged!

I think that would qualify as leading with one’s chin, yes. But it’s very common for flamboyant homosexual men to do so, and then to be, first, belligerant, and when that doesn’t work, second, whiny bitches.

I have no sympathy for people who seek attention and then whine when they don’t get the kind of affirmative attention they expect. Perhaps I should, but I don’t.

my son has a physical disability and this is exactly what I worry about...bullies - fortunate for him - I will hunt those little ******* down...but that’s only if I know about it...

Despite my words above - I think the schools in the US need to get back to Christian principles where goodness, kindness, and appreciation are taught - where competition in being a winner - but also helping others in areas where one is good at and others are not.

Society at this point (and the current President is a symbol of this) has become about a “me” society - it’s all about me - if you are not like “me” then I will make fun of you - I don’t want to do this, it makes “me” ..etc, etc, etc...

From teh beginning - when someone makes fun of another - schools need to discipline them immediately - but no - it might hurt their self-esteem or some teacher might get sued...then again - the parents of the bullies need to be held accountable as well - those girls that did that were allowed to do such at home by the parents and they think nothing of it...

Shameful - and sad -

This really makes me bitterly sad. I read years ago that Hitler said, “Our goal is to create a generation without a conscience.” In America today, I’m afraid the liberals have succeeded where Hitler failed.

Looks like the PC folks have won a total victory.

Youngsters, believing they have no power whatsoever, turning to the establishment (now our refuge of first resort)and being failed by that establishment, resort themselves, to suicide.

In a system where self esteem is more esteemed than self reliance, this will likely continue.

In olden times (fill in decade of choice), parents might say something like “...well of course what the kids are saying is not true, stand up for yourself...” or “...if it gets to a physical confrontation, don’t start the fight, but make sure you end it...” and after lessons from a loving father or other “martial provider” (son or daughter, doesn’t matter) the next time the young girl is assaulted, the assaulting girl gets punched in the t!ts knocked down and arm locked or the assaulting boy gets kicked in the cods. If the school disciplines the assaulted child, the parents use the opportunity to celebrate strength of character with their child. The bully learns a lesson too. Learn to be sociable, or suffer the consequences.

“use your words” as a response to an assault may be the most destructive line of reasoning ever to take hold in our society.

It really is that simple. Knock a bully down.

With all due respect, if this had happened at the funeral of my child, I would be in jail.

There was a rule in my house: You don't ever start a fight, but if someone starts with you - you'd better end it.

My parents would have crashed on me like 10 tons of bricks if I bullied anyone. But if anyone bullied me, I had free reign to beat the crap out of them.

Which I did.

I'm raising my kids the same way. I don't give a damn what the school says. The Tolerance Free Zone is just license for the evil to act up, and the good to sit there and take it.

Over my dead body, not my child's.

Filth. Amoral, sociopathic animals. Not too far from where I grew up, either.
