Dad: School allowed boy to make mask that looks like Ku Klux Klan hood

Looks like a Klan hat, really? I'd say to the kid and to any sane adult it was colorful, perhaps red, white, and blue, and appropriate for typical 6 y/o games. I am amazed that even a parent looking to take offense could manage this overblown a reaction. "Monday, Dallas Smith, 6, came home wearing a white, cone-shaped mask . . . Smith confronted Winfield-Scott’s principal Tuesday morning. She apologized. So did the district superintendent . . . Smith and his wife are moving their son to a school in Pittsburg, Kansas. They believe administrators in Fort Scott need sensitivity training."

Mask on Monday after school, confrontation with the principal and the district superintendent Tuesday morning, kid out of the school system and story in the newspaper on Wednesday morning. I wonder if these parents work as hard at their jobs as they do at taking offense over nothing, or are they angling for a "the art teacher acted stupidly" moment and a free beer? The worst part is that this little boy looks like a nice kid, and it's obvious what the parents are going to do to him with twelve more years of indoctrination.

Let’s see, when you’re six, what is the easiest hat to make? A cone. What parent hasn’t seen this hat made by their kids a multitude of times? Six year old wants to make a mask - tape some paper to the front with a hole cut out for the face. Typical six year old.

Now his parents have turned what was a fun, crafty project, made with six-year-old skills and thinking, into something ugly. Shame on them.

So the parent was really mad that the hat looked like a KKK hood, and somehow I guess that was loathesome to him and bothersome that people might see his son in such a hat.

And his response was to invite a reporter to tell the world, and to TAKE A PICTURE OF HIS KID IN THE HAT?

Thus immortalizing the hat and the kid as the “KKK-hat-kid”?
