Congressmen Introduces Bill to Force Obama to Deploy at Least 10k Nat'l. Guardsmen at Mex. Border

Rep. Ted Poe (R.-Texas), who served for 30 years as a Texas prosecutor and judge before being elected to Congress, introduced legislation last week designed to force President Barack Obama to deploy a minimum of 10,000 National Guard troops at the U.S. Mexico border for the specific purpose of patrolling the border and intercepting aliens and smugglers attempting to cross illegally into the United States.

The legislation would allow the president to deploy more than 10,000 National Guardsmen, but not fewer.

“The president could put more than that, but he must put 10,000,” Poe told CNSNews.com. “The uniqueness of this is they would be paid by the federal government, because everybody says it is the responsibility of the federal government to protect the border. So the federal government will use the resources it already has to pay for those 10,000 National Guard troops, but they will be supervised by the governors of the four states on the border.”

Poe, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism and the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, told CNSNews.com in a videotaped interview that America was projecting such a weak image around the world in failing to protect its southern border that people were traveling from all around the world to Mexico so they could enter the U.S. illegally from there.

“Every country in the world knows the United States will not protect the sovereignty of its country, and will not protect especially the southern border,” said Poe. “So, when someone wants to come to the United States, they figure out a way to come to Mexico and then come to the United States.”

They will, never fear. And they’ll couch their vote in the usual PC rhetoric.

A perfect post, fellow freeper

20 co-sponsors - nice job

The bill has 20 original co-sponsors. But, so far, has no Democratic co-sponsors. The original co-sponsors are: Rep. Lamar Smith (TX-21), Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-32), Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22), Rep. Sam Johnson (TX-03), Rep. John Carter (TX-31), Rep. Kay Granger (TX-12), Rep. Kenny Marchant (TX-24), Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04), Rep. Ed Royce (CA-40), Rep. Joe Barton (TX-06), Rep. John Culberson (TX-07), Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01), Rep. Kevin Brady (TX-08), Rep. Michael McCaul (TX-10), Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (MD-06), Rep. Pete Hoekstra (MI-02), Rep. John Shadegg (AZ-03), Rep. John Fleming (LA-04), Rep. Sam Graves (MO-06) and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (CA-46).

Can someone please post the bill number. I want to make sure my congressman is aware of this bill and encourage him to sponsor this bill..

The Southern Boarder apparently has ~ 20k agents. To help out it would be good to surge the NG to 40K on the border for a year and see how that works out.

Barack Obama has already made it clear he won’t deport any illegals under current law, so he will just ignore this law also.

Why pick on the National Guard. Those guys have jobs they have to keep and they have bills to pay with their salary. The National Guard is for Emergency use. Put the Marines on the Border , or the Army. With ammunition and orders to shoot to kill.

Any military force sent there should be armed, with the supporting artillery and armor present, and air support on call.

Just put the illegals down, at minimum loss to our guys, as they step across the border.

Just leave them where they drop, since not only do buzzards need to eat too, but it’ll serve as a very clear warning to the follow ons.

I dont like this idea. Congress would be overstepping their bounds. The President is the commander in chief and shouldnt have congress ordering him where to put any troops.

Why doesn’t the governor of Texas send HIS National Guard to the border?

And if gutless wonder Obama says anything about it, tell him to go pound sand!

What’s Obama gonna do? Send the U.S. Army to attack the Texas National Guard? :-) Send the FBI in to arrest the governor of Texas? :-)

A coward is a coward - Obama ain’t gonna do nothing but WHINE!

This and his failure to protect our borders should be grounds to start impeachment hearings. Shame on the Republicans for not trying to stop this marxist.

The coward is the supposed bad ass Texan governor who’s all for states rights until it comes to spending some coin.

Same with Jan Brewer. They say they don’t have the money to do it, so they won’t do anything.

I say get the job done, and forward the bill. If the feds don’t pay, keep the payroll witholding tax until the bill is paid.

I heard a news story today in which a Texan oil worker was jet skiing on a lake that we share with Mexico. Mexican pirates on the lake demanded cash, he refused, and was shot in the head. They then shot at his wife/girlfriend, preventing her from RETRIEVING THE BODY. Texas does nothing, the feds do nothing, and they leave the mans body to rot.

Damn the ruling class.

1969 miles of border x 5280 == 10,396,320 feet.

For 10,000 troops, each would have to cover at least over 10,396 feet of border. Almost 2 miles per guardsman.

ALERT ! Math error!!

It would mean each guardsman would have to cover almost 1040 feet. Even that is just under a quarter mile.

Sorry...not enough caffine today.

**Why doesn?t the governor of Texas send HIS National Guard to the border?**

That is exactly right!! These individual states need to stop deferring/blaming the feds and do the job THEY were elected to do. Everyone knows the fed. Government whether its democrats/repubs (see G.Bush) isn’t gonna do a d*mn thing. Take your national guard and put them on your border with orders to shoot to kill. At this same time your putting the power back where its supposed to be, with the states!
