US Navy To Battle Iranian Mini-Ekranoplan Swarms With Rayguns

The US military-industrial complex has unveiled its answer to the much-vaunted "swarm" tactics of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard naval forces, which might see squadrons of "stealth" flying boats and attack craft overwhelming the defences of US warships in the Persian Gulf. The US Navy will deal with this, apparently, using rapid-firing laser raygun cannons to sweep their swarming enemies from the seas and skies around them.

I’m just wondering how much of a threat a kit-built ekranoplan, armed with an MG, is to a destroyer?
Its seems like a better description would be “entertainment.”

For crying out loud, the gatlings are designed to take out high speed MISSILES, these things will be a piece of cake.
Maybe they should motivate the Iranian pilots by having them watch kamikaze attacks on the pacific fleet and remember that it was BEFORE the gatling guns. It would be a bloody turkey shoot.
And I DO mean bloody.

I watched the video. What does Iran think they are going to do with those toys? All I see is a bunch of amphibious Cessna 150's. Actually, they aren't even that, if they can't fly above ground effect.
There are no hard points to mount armaments that will keep them out of the water while taxiing. The most they could do is load them with explosives and turn them into kamikazes.
The current Phalanx CIWS (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/weaps/mk-15.htm) will make mincemeat out of these puddle jumpers.

I had a vision a long time ago about frisbe shapped claymores and a skeet launcher. Flip them out and then a proximity fuse detonates either at a certain height/altitude or after so many rotations.
