LOS ANGELES - Hundreds of human rights groups are asking the Obama administration to end programs that allow local police to check the immigration status of arrestees.

A letter to the president Wednesday says it encourages racial profiling and calls it a dangerous merger of the federal immigration enforcement system with state criminal justice systems.

The letter is signed by the AFL-CIO and a broad range of criminal justice, peace, religious, ethnic and immigrant rights groups around the country, including the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement is expanding a program that permits local police officers to run arrestees' names through a Department of Homeland Security database.

When Democrats are in charge, equal enforcement of the law is illegal.

Maybe they’ll storm the White House Saturday. This could get interesting.

Hundreds of human rights groups are asking the Obama administration...

Ooo, "hundreds". Sounds impressive, such an irresistable force.

The quality of propoganda is suffering lately. I'm actually embarrassed for the leftist SOBs in the MSM.

Ignorance is Strength: If the population does not know that anything more can exist, or that they are being lied to, or that change is possible, they aren’t going to care. If a government can manage to keep it’s population so ignorant that they do not question what they are told, no weaknesses within what the government says will ever be found.

“dangerous merger of the federal immigration enforcement system with state criminal justice systems.”

I like how they interject the word “dangerous” there. Otherwise it would sound too obviously like a good idea!

I agree with them.

Good idea.

No more racial profiling.

Equal treatment for all the arrested.

Yeah! Let's adopt sort of a "zero tolerance"-type policy for arrestees: run everybody’s name through the ICE immigration status check system. In the end, same net effect.

Sure, it will waste a lot of resources but the Left/Liberals will have to grudgingly acknowledge the "equality" of the treatment.

Actually, of course, that's not the complainers are really after. They are after immigration unfettered by the artifical construct of a national border. Well, as long as it is in-migration, not out-migration.

I’m doing my part to expand those checks: please visit www.stopthemagnet.com and register IF YOU ARE A CITY OF HOUSTON VOTER. This will mandate the use of E-Verify if I get 20k participants. 2012 ballot measure.

Our country is being stolen from us by border-jumping criminals and Third World rejects who tell us we have no right in our own country to enforce our immigration laws!
