Small-town mayor stoned to death in western Mexico

MEXICO CITY, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The mayor of a small town in western Mexico was found on Monday stoned to death in the third attack on a public official in the country in less than a week, local authorities said.

The bodies of Gustavo Sanchez, mayor of Tancitaro in Michoacan state, and an aide were found, officials said.

"It appears they stoned them to death," a source from the local prosecutor's office said on condition of anonymity.

Local media reported that the bodies were found in the back of a flat-bed truck.

There was no immediate indication whether the killings were related to drug violence. More than 29,000 people have been killed in violence between rival drug cartels and between cartels and state security forces since President Felipe Calderon launched his offensive on cartels in 2006.

One could draw many conclusions from this.

I see Mexico's establishment corrupted and overwhelmed by drug cartels.

Then I see our federal government corrupted by PHARMA.

Hmmm.

Such as... there's a lot of job openings for 'small town mayors' in Mexico.

So “there’s a lot of job openings for small town mayors” and not a lot of takers.

“Stoning” makes it sound like a rejection by a large group of people; i.e., an emphatic recall campaign?! If so, this could be a good thing. Perhaps the populace has had enough of corrupt politicians.

No kidding. Stoning isn’t something generally undertaken by one or two people. You would wear yourself out before you killed the victim.

I thought the same thing. I don’t ever remember Mexican history including stonings.

Stoning is an Islamic footprint. It was only a matter of time before Islamic terrorists reared their ugly heads in the vicinity of our southern border. They have much to offer the Cartels and the cartels have much to offer in return. Heaven forbid we secure the border though. We wouldn’t want to offend any demographic groups.

What’s the big deal? People get stoned in Mexico every day. Some folks think that’s what Mexico is there for.

While doing some mission work in central Mexico a couple of years ago, I worked with some people who were from Southern area of Mexico (Chiapas). They told us that it was very common to stone converts from the Catholic faith to a Protestant faith. It was usually condoned by the Church. I would not be surprise if this person had converted. Now, not to paint a broad brush on Catholicism, but the Catholicism at that location was very different from mainline Catholicism in Mexico in general. It was a mixture of the stronger indiginous faiths with a slight sprinling of the Catholic tenents. The people are very supersticious and are quickly to react when some “outside” people start spreading a “new” religion.

Yes. This reflects peones reaching their limit. The drug cartels would simply have shot him, as more reliable and less demanding. This was done by people whose resources are limited to things like the stones at their feet.

Catholics of the old school in Messico were heavily influenced by Islam. They were under Moslim rule for 700 years.

PS The Inquisition in Spain made the Roman Inquisition look like a college frat hazing by comparison.

Why the difference? The Spanish Inquisition was funded by the property of those found guilty of herisy.

Oddly, almost no one was found innocent.

Hmmn - the chappies at the cop shop in your town is funded by confiscated property to a greater extent thay you might think.

:-(
