It’s amazing how China’s military expansion has coincided with the expansion of the left in the West.
Amazing.

Title should read:
“With the factories, money and technology the U.S. outsourced to it via ‘free trade’, China develops sea power”

China is developing systems for total war, conventional and cyber war. Meanwhile, ozero is downgrading our military, weakening our economy, cutting off our fuel supples, flashing weakness to the world, almost inviting an attack, partying like a rock star all to the adoring praises of our so called media.
wow.
To: nuconvert
Whether or not the US is/was distracted, what exactly should have been or be done to curb China’s developing sea power?

I think its awesome that they’re using the $$ they make from selling us manufactured goods. And they’re making those manufactured goods with OUR factories that we willingly outsourced to them.
Between liberalism, political correctness and our relentless de-Industrialization, there are times when I think we are the biggest idiots in history.
Carbon credits anyone??

If China expands its submarine fleet to 78 by 2020 as planned, it would be on par with the U.S. Navy's undersea fleet in quantity, if not in quality
During the Cold War, I can remember the Soviets having over 50 subs AT SEA at a given time. We found out quality matters far more than numerical superiority in submarine operations. Even in ten years, I doubt China will be able to match the technical/operational quality of US SSNs/GNs/BNs. It's a very slow learning curve.

On top of that, we’re tracking them as soon as they leave port.

China's 66 noisy submarines would be fish bait inside of one hour from our subs and our navy's aircraft carriers would deliver more ordnance in that hour to make the bombing of Tokyo seem like a picnic. Shoot, no EU country has been able to produce a community of motivated military personnel in the post ww2 era that can do effective carrier and sub war tactics. And that goes for Russia and China as well. The only place either one of them wins is infantry, overwhelming numbers and on land. Navy? Dont make me laugh.
