The owner of CNN is none other than media powerhouse Time Warner. Although Time Warner is the current owner as of 2010, Ted Turner of Turner Broadcasting System initially created the Cable News Network.

After many years of building CNN into a very successful network, Ted Turner agreed to combine forces with Time Warner in a merger. This merger resulted in CNN’s acquisition by Time Warner.

Time Warner is a company that has a very far reaching influence on media. This company owns a number of different subsidiaries in addition to CNN such as the Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers, HBO and Castle Rock Entertainment just to name a few.

He is no longer the majority owner. He sold a lot of his stock years ago.

The reason for this is simple. They can see what is going to be happening in November. And being seen as Obama's cheerleader means that all the "Good" interviews with the new GOP leadership will go to FOX.

This is just a symbolic change, in hopes of getting GOP leaders to appear on their network. After all you can't do an ambush interview if nobody will agree to appear on your show in the first place. I expect there will be some other, like a token conservative in one of the three shows each night. Getting rid of Olberman isn't a big loss. They will put Mike Castle or Lisa Murkowski in his place and call it a conservative show.

No, it’s part of Time/Warner now. Turner actually has very little to do with it anymore.

Turner may be a lefty, but he is also a smart, hard nosed businessman. If he was in charge and thought the way to make a profit was to make CNN even more conservative than FOX he’d be doing it. Money drives Turner before ideology.

Time/Warner is a publicy traded company though. I’ve been wondering when the point would come that they demanded CNN be run to create a profit, not as a political arm of the DNC. Maybe that time has come.
