Usually liberals scream that budget cutting will kill people.
This time, they can’t say that.

>>Christie is NOT as conservative as this action would suggest. Im pretty sure that the reason for the veto had more to do with belt tightening than the abortion issue.<<
Could be but I’m not sure I care at all.
God works in mysterious ways.

Maybe now they will start to take state’s rights seriously.

The article says they backed down so his veto
wouldn't be overridden.
That was a good thing, it allowed the clinics to have funds cut off.

Im pretty sure that the reason for the veto had more to do with belt tightening than the abortion issue. Christie is quite openly pro-life.

He has said he isn't interested in running for president.
I could see him being a great vp candidate if asked. He handles the press really well and does a great job attacking the libs head on.
I wish he hadn't done a few things (mosque, Castle), so he ain't perfect.

I’d trade him for our gov any time, plus the republican squish who looks like he will win this year.

Republicans in the legislature backed downBesides the governor, there are very few pro-life Republicans in statewide office in NJ.
The NJ GOP is more or less the definition of country club Republicanism, and in comparison the governor looks like a right winger.
The success of his governorship and the possibility of a Tea Party-driven Congressional upset in the 6th district will start to embolden actual NJ conservative Republicans.

"Christie is quite openly pro-life." Is he? I had no idea and never would have guessed. It's almost amazing to me that New Jersey would have elected him. Was the Catholic vote much of a factor?
To: Lakeshark
The key phrase is backed down. That implies that they changed their position from supporting the veto override to opposing it. That tells me they did it grudgingly and their heart wasn’t in it.

I just tell people that Christie is PERFECT for New Jersey and that he is the definitive TEA party politician, and leave it at that.

This is how you save unborn lives. One state, one clinic, one life at a time. Way to go, Chris.

I have always believed that fiscal conservatism aides the cause of social conservatism. Receding government empowers the voices and wallets of social conservatives.
To: DManA
I know little about NJ politics, other than his becoming governor was just shy of some sort of a miracle.
You may be right about them not wanting to back down, but the good news is they did.
