This kind of terrible "happenstance" makes one physically ill.

HOWEVER, were I a parent of any one of these incredible young people, I'd damn sure want to know exactly why the helicopter went down. EXACTLY!
And "mechanical failure" don't cut it, not by a long stretch.
I'd want to know who serviced the aircraft - and it better not be any "foreign nationals".
No, the reason won't bring back any of these great young people...but finding it just may prevent a re-occurence.
And that is important in the extreme.
I tend to share your concerns as my daughter is a civilian flight nurse, and the safety record of that industry makes the occupation the most dangerous in America. Maintenance is way to often short changed to save costs or maximize profit depending on the setting, military or civilian. That said, helicopters are inherently dangerous as their flight complexities leave no margin of safety in case of pilot or mechanical failure. Prayers out for the dead and injured and their families.
