Two independent polls out Wednesday bear good news for Republicans Pat Toomey in the Pennsylvania Senate race and Mike Kelly in his PA 03 race against Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (D).
A Quinnipiac survey of likely Pennsylvania voters finds Toomey leading Rep. Joe Sestak by 7%, 50% to 43%. That is the first time Toomey has hit 50% in a poll this year.
But there are troubling signs for Sestak deeper in the poll. Pres. Obama has only a 40% approval rating in the state, according to the poll, while 56% disapprove of his job performance.
"Among likely voters, President Barack Obama is a drag on Sestak's candidacy," said Quinnipiac pollster Peter Brown. "The president has a low approval rating and voters want their new senator to oppose, rather than support, the presidents policies."

Rasmussen Poll yesterday had Toomey 9 points up. If Quinnipiac has Toomey up by seven then the real figure is closer to 10.
Boy, did I misread that headline. I thought it was implying exactly the opposite point that the article made.
exactly why they wrote it like that. Many people just read headlines and that has propaganda power. It is for the self deceived.
“Boy, did I misread that headline”
...me too. Glad I had time to read it! Good news when Quinnipiac has 7 points! Probably way more than that.
Tom Corbett is wiping up the map with Dan Onorato in the Governor’s race, and the effects of that are moving all the way down the ticket.
Correct. My gut feeling is that Toomey wins with only 3-4 points under Corbett’s total. People here in the SW know both Corbett and Onorato too well since they are Pittsburgh boys. Corbett has widened the lead to such an extent in our area of the state that they’ve stopped polling. Onorato is running ahead or close to competitive in only one area of the state— Philadelphia and the ‘burbs, and that’s where both candidates are spending most of their time.
