I think some of this must have gotten edited out by mistake: it's not clear to me what happened in 1585.

Could you read that over and maybe supply more about your ancestry? It's interesting!

My grandmother used to say we were related to Virginia Dare. She was, apparently adamant about it. We though it was the “gift of the Irish,” and my mother said she paid little or no attention to it, as it was just grown-up talk -UNTIL we went back through a genealogist. Funny thing about my mother’s family - great story tellers - the gift of the Blarney. Every time they’d have you at “hello,” you’d bite hook, line and sinker — it was BS (Blarney Stone); and every single time we’d think it’s more of the same, you’d find yourself apologizing profusely for ever doubting them (and they’d even have the gall to look so hurt that you had). I swear they were having a big laugh up in Heaven the moment we got the news. Lost Colony didn’t get lost, we just didn’t know where the hell we’d been. We were right here all the time. ;-)
