Complete title: Obama Administration Releases Spanish-Language Video Showing How College Is ‘An Attainable Dream’ for Hispanics
(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. Education Department on Tuesday released a new video produced especially to show Spanish-speaking families how going to college is “more attainable and more affordable than ever before.”
The five-minute video profiles Samantha Hernandez, a sophomore at California State University Dominguez Hills, showing the support she receives -- information on scholarships and financial aid -- in pursuing a college degree.
According to an Education Department news release, the camera follows Hernandez on campus and at home in South Central Los Angeles, where she lives with her mother and sisters. Her story is told in Spanish, using her own words and those of her fellow students, faculty adviser, college president and relatives.
The video coincides with President Barack Obama’s signing of a proclamation commemorating National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Week. California State University Dominguez Hills is among the more than 200 HSIs serving more than one million Hispanic students across the nation.
The video is entitled, “La universidad: un sueño alcanzable,” (“College: An Attainable Dream”) and is closed-captioned in Spanish and in English.
Also on Tuesday, the U.S. Senate is expected to take up the Dream Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have lived here for at least five years. To be eligible, those illegal immigrants would have to attend college or serve in the military.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, bypassing normal procedure, has attached the measure to a defense spending bill.
Republicans call it a gimmick to attract Latino votes before the midterm election.
“Democrats have called up this bill, not to have a vote on it or to consider amendments to help our troops in the field, but to put on a show to use it as an opportunity to cast votes for things Americans either don’t want or aren’t interested in seeing attached to a bill that’s supposed to be about defense,” Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday.
These thugs need to no only be defeated in November, but jailed.
For who?? Right now I am looking down the road to my daughter going to college and it looks pretty expensive. She will have to work and we will have to help if she is going to come out of college debt free. I resent this as a middle working class family.
I don’t think this will accomplish much. If you don’t know enough English to grasp an advertisement about college, how are you going to do on your SAT or ACT?

Yep, we’re looking at one grandkid just entering college and one due to start next year with more to follow.
Their parents and us are not wealthy by any stretch and here our government is catering to illegals for college educations, it really pisses me off.
I believe the video is for the benefit of anchor babies’ parents who still don’t speak English.
You know the answer. The usurper in the White House has declared war on the productive, white, middle class. Colleges will be packed with every cat & dog minority imaginable (legal and illegal), all there at a significant discount from normal tuition.
