We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.
Exactly. The issue must be immigration period. Not this false dichotomy between legal and illegal immigration.
Conservatism can not become a philosophy of legalism. It doesn't matter if all illegal immigration is stopped if legal immigration is doubled from its already insanely high numbers.
Conservatives have failed for 100 years to learn from the tactics of the left: demand FAR more than you can get and then compromise closer to what your ultimate goal is. And then before the ink is even dry on the compromise start demanding far more than what you demanded previously and repeat the cycle.

The leftist permeated system we live under now was the inspiration for my screen name. There is a Marxist term called "the rarification of triumphant values". It is when leftism so permeates every institution, and even the citizens' thought processes, no solution to a problem can be enacted which is not liberal in nature.
All the vast majority conservatives are asking for on immigration is for the already extremely liberal status quo laws to be enforced. Supposed conservatives in power want just the appearance of the status quo-an even more liberal position. That is the rarification of triumphant values in place.
It's the same thing with education, where the liberal solution of stricter testing by the state is the supposed conservative position. Whereas a real conservative position would entail bulldozers and salting the earth. Homosexual "marriage" of course, the same thing. The compromise was the extremely leftist concept of civil unions. Even I am guilty here, as I have to use the word "marriage" in quotation marks as a word deriding the concept of homosexual "marriage" doesn't even exist. That's how alien the concept is.

You can't oppose what you can't describe without using the left's descriptors. They win just by semantics and its subliminal effects.
Even the Tea Parties or Glenn Beck can't talk about tax cuts without first giving a paen to diversity. There I did it again just by using the word "diversity".
The lefts intellectuals gave them the dialectic and class theory and critical theory.

I see people here on Free Republic constantly stating the left's goal is the destruction of the West or the United States. That's not true at all. The left doesn't have any permanent goals. Constant revolution is an end to itself. That which is established they wish to tear down. If we ever find ourselves at the point where homosexual "marriage" is considered sacred, they would immediately be advocating for its destruction. Even Stalin, who many conservatives consider the epitome of the left, held an impure rightist tendency in that he put a stop to the concept of permanent revolution. He did keep the permanent terror though.
I don't know what we have in our arsenal, but it doesn't look good. We don't even know where to aim it.
