We have tens of thousands of American military here in Japan, all the way down to Okinawa (not to mention something like 70,000 non-US military in Japan--American citizens), so it is not just an issue of Japan alone bearing any brunt of provocative Red Chinese Hegemony and Brinksmanship and "going it alone".
