Inquiry into Arpaio's office raises concerns. [Neighboring sheriff vows due process]

PHOENIX — Two Maricopa County supervisors say an investigation into operations at the county sheriff’s office should be conducted by a neutral agency and not Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.

Board Chairman Don Stapley and Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox say Babeu is a close political ally of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and having an investigation supervised by Babeu will cloud the probe.

One of Arpaio’s top aides wrote a 63-page memo last month calling for an investigation of the sheriff’s second-in-command and two other high-ranking deputies. Deputy Chief Frank Munnell alleges years of mismanagement and misconduct by Chief Deputy David Hendershott.

Arpaio gave the memo to Babeu this week for him to review it and determine whether a broader investigation is needed.

A statement from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said “all parties involved will be afforded complete due process.”

The statement continued:

“The investigation will be unbiased, professional and in the end will be based solely on facts.”

Babeu will hire outside special counsel and other experts.

At the conclusion of the investigation, “Babeu will continue with his practice of transparency in government and will explain the investigation and any recommendations he has made publicly,” the statement said.

“If all parties involved with the complaint agree Sheriff Babeu is best suited to investigate the allegations then we ask Supervisors Wilcox and Stapley to wait for the conclusion of the investigation before casting any doubt,” the statement said.

Matthew 24:9-12

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

I know, it needs some serious cleaning. I think people are starting to wake up and pay attention. For too many years they have trusted their fellow Arizonans to pick thing for them and now they are finding out the ones who were doing the picking were either stupid or too lazy to find out anything about the candidates.
