4:50 p.m. - Few Republican lawmakers were as stung by Rep. Mike Castle's surprising loss to his conservative GOP opponent as Maine Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe.

In a hallway just off the Senate floor Thursday afternoon, she sounded off about her place as a moderate in the GOP, and voter anger she says she understands.

Visibly sad, Snowe called Castle "an outstanding public servant who was committed to the common good of his state and country."

The longer Snowe talked about the state of the GOP and the Tea Party movement, the more riled up she got.

"Understand, there are a lot of issues that, for example, in the Tea Party that they raise that are legitimate issues. Did we abandon our basic principles of fiscal responsibility? Absolutely. I was arguing those points during the Bush administration," Snowe said emphatically, "I made those very arguments."

Hehehehehehe. The shock waves are going around the Republican Party and making the RINOs very nervous. Lets see how she votes in the next couple of years. I would not be surprised if she veers to the right.

Married to former Maine Governor “Jock” McKernan, who did his level best to bankrupt the state while in office.

Isn't Snowe up in 2012?

Shouldn't we get rid of her too?

This is going to be one of the sweet, sweet side effects of the TEA Party. RINOs are sitting up, taking notice and are much less likely to cooperate with Obama.

Summary -

Straw man
Straw man
I’m a victim

Not buying. Never wanted to buy. No backbone - not even the courage of her own convictions. She even managed a “blame Bush” in the middle - (I argued for fiscal responsibility during the Bush admin...)

That’s right Olympia, you are a poor outsider, with no connections or power, being bullied by imaginary people demanding purity.

Only - none of that is true. So screw off.

Come on Mainiacs - get some backbone.

She is trying to “McCain” the voters.

She must be relying on Melman advisors.

Be honest, Ms. Snowe. Change your affiliation to Democrat.

Right there shows that cluelessness abounds.

This evil woman (with her pathetic RINO twin)
has screwed America and the GOP every chance she has had.

[And usually on a Friday the 13th, interestingly]

“Snowe said as her voice got louder, “I’m angry, because I work here ever day and I want things to be different”

We know you do. To have it your way the entire Constitution would be irrelevant.

The jig is up. I suggest you dust off that resume...

I wonder what would happen if a REAL conservative decided to run against Snowe next time she’s up?

Especially if the TEA party folks got solidly behind such a person.

If I were to run against Snowe in the primary I would demand that she signs a pledge, before the primary election takes place that she will not run as an independent if she loses. I think every tea party candidate or newcomer should demand that pledge before the primary. It would be fun to wath these RINOs try to spin their way out of signing that pledge.
