Initial claims for state unemployment benefits slipped 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 450,000, the lowest since the week ended July 10, the Labor Department said.

3000 drop, in the “adjusted numbers”? That’s like an inperceptable change. And 450,000 is higher than the best month this year, and also about 120,000 higher than we really need to start growing the economy.

This miniscule slowing in the rate of NEW unemployed, falls into the category of “rounding errors”.

It is certainly no gauge of “improvement”!

One week does not a trend make, even if these are accurate and not fuzzy-math figures.

When there are fewer and fewer people working, of course the numbers would go down. Most business are operating at a bare bones number of employees.

Another 450,000 jobs were lost last week and the liberal media spins it as improvement. Some things never change.

How is THAT “progress”?

Spin, spin, spin. We've had close to an average of a half million people a week applying for first time unemployment bennies for over 20 months now and the Libs and their willing accomplices in the laimstream media cheer.....makes my head hurt.....

Initial claims....

There's the key word my FRiends. Initial Claims.

So damned many people are out of work right now that there just aren't enough jobs left for people to be laid off from.

As more and more people lose their jobs, the number of "initial claims" is going to fall until eventually, when everyone but government employees are out of work, the initial claims will reach zero.

Yup, 4 day claim week.

State of Oregon employees are taking tomorrow off as a “furlough” day, about their 8th of the year and always on a Friday. Don’t worry about them though, they just got a 5% pay increase August 1st.
