Labrador criticizes Minnick for canceling debate

Republican Raul Labrador said today, September 14, 2010, that Congressman Walt Minnick should honor his campaign commitment to debate him on television. Yesterday, Minnick canceled an October 20 debate on KTVB television in Boise that Minnick spokesman John Foster said the congressman had "tentatively accepted".

In a story in The Idaho Statesman; KTVB General Manager Doug Armstrong said he was told Minnick was withdrawing from the debate as "a matter of strategy". However, Foster answered saying, "That's not what I said. The congressional schedule still is bit tentative. We felt we had room to commit to one statewide televised debate and opted to accept the Idaho Public Television debate." That debate is scheduled for October 14th depending on the congressional schedule.

Labrador, in his statement said that not only should Minnick honor his previous commitment but called on him to "review his own words on the subject of debates" when he challenged his opponent in the 2008 election, then Congressman Bill Sali, to a series of ten debates across the state.

Walt Minnick has managed to escape the wrath that most DemocRATS have faced from the voters. It would be ironic if he were to be relected in his heavily Republican district while so many of his peers in safer districts lost.

Do you have early voting there? Just asking ‘cause maybe he is waiting (like Reid in Nevada) to debate after voting begins.

Walt “the dishonest” Minick has no time for debates because he’s job-hunting in anticipation of having his ass whipped in the November election.

Charlie Dog: I’m part Labrador retriever.
Porky Pig: Y-y-y-ou are not!
Charlie: I can prove it: get a Labrador, and I’ll retrieve it. Do you have a Labrador?
Porky: N-n-n-no.
Charlie: You know where you can get one.
Porky: N-n-n-no.
Charlie: Then shaddap.

Walt’s got enough money that he thinks he can swamp the media without engaging. Personally I don’t think it will matter. Labrador points out that a vote for Walt is a vote for Pelosi and Walt’s toast.
