The New Hampshire Republican Senate primary tomorrow is getting even tighter, with a new PPP poll showing Tea Party-backed Ovide LaMontagne only trailing frontrunner (and establishment pick) Kelly Ayotte by seven points.
LaMontagne has gained serious ground since the last PPP poll in July, when he was trailing Ayotte by a whopping 39 points.
The latest numbers show Ayotte polling at 37%, while LaMontagne has the second-highest numbers in the multi-candidate field, at 30%. Last time, Ayotte was killing LaMontagne 47%-8%.
As we've reported, Ayotte has gotten into some trouble lately, between party in-fighting and some concerns about her conservative record.
LaMontagne, on the other hand, has seen endorsements by the conservative paper the Union Leader , and more recently, by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).

Wait a second........didn’t LaMontagne endorse Romney when he ran for President?
I think I’m gonna trust Sarah Palin’s judgment here and root for Ayotte.
(RINO accusations hurling at me in 5.....4....3....2...1....)
Remind us again who Palin endorsed in 08
In the 2008 primary? She endorsed no one.
BUMP
Yet she was so thrilled with the moron RINO who won the primary, she went out and lied about him to get him re-elected Senator. Funny that.
This they guy that clobbered by Jean Shaheen in the 1996 governor’s race?
NH Ping
Pissant, you skipped the important part where the moron RINO picked her for veep hence raising her profile.
Hey sometimes there’s a little quid with the pro quo.
It is not a truism that the tea party candidate is better than the GOP traditional candidate. I don’t know Ayotte but it is certainly not fair to her to compare her to Castle, Bennett, McCain or Murkowski. If I recall, she is a pro-life candidate. If I am wrong on that please correct me, someone.
The NH Firearms Coalition has announced their ratings...
· Kelly Ayotte: B
· Bill Binnie: D
· Ovide Lamontagne: F
· Jim Bender refused to participate
Kelly Ayotte is pro-life, pro-second amendment rights, and anti-spending.
Ovide Lamontage is anti-second amendment, and pro Mitt Romney.
As I mentioned in a related thread, Jeanne Shaheen did not win the NH statehouse in 1996 because Lamontagne ran a poor campaign. She won for several reasons: first, Shaheen ran as a “moderate” and an “outsider” (sound familiar?) and had a huge financial advantage. She banked significant resources coming largely from out of state (e.g. - Emily’s List, AFSCME, NARAL, and all of those wonderful folks). Also, as of 1996, the governor’s office had not been held by a Democrat since 1982, and there was a natural tendency for people to desire a change. Finally, there was Bob Dole: an awful Presidential candidate who dragged down the entire Republican ballot with him.
Kelly Ayotte is no RINO. Stop with dumbass statements.
She is backed by every pro life group. Backed by the NH Firearms Coalition (Lamontagne recvd ‘F’). Backed by the Chiefs of Police (tough on crime). Backed by Palin.
Hardly a RINO.
Lamontagne is described as a “compassionate conservative.” He is a huge gun control advocate.
"The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms embodies a fundamental human right that we enjoy under the Constitution. I believe that the Second Amendment reflects an individual right to keep and bear arms for any lawful purpose. While being a hunter is not necessary to appreciate the importance of the Second Amendment, the fact is, I am a lifelong hunter and I have been a proud member of the NRA since 1992. As Senator, I will be a tireless champion of the Second Amendment on behalf of millions of freedom loving gun owners across New Hampshire and our nation."
The Union-Leader has gone full tilt attacking Ayotte and promoting their candidate, Ovide. They've back him fully in every campaign, including his disastrous blowout loss to Jeanne Shaheen, launching Shaheen's career.
And yet Kelly Ayotte still leads the primary. She's a fighter, she fought and beat Planned Parenthood, she enforced the law fairly and impartially as Attorney General, and she'll make a great conservative Senator for New Hampshire.
New Hampshire Right to Life, the (pro-life) Susan B. Anthony List, and Sarah Palin are fully in Ayotte's corner -- there are current ZERO pro-life female Senators, and Ayotte would be a beacon of light in the darkness.
OF course the cultists are trying to spin this. I’ll take DeMint and Laura Ingraham and Levin’s endorsement over Carly McPalin’s anyway.
