Topeka church says it will burn Qur’an

Topeka’s Westboro Baptist Church announced tonight that it plans to burn the Qur’an and an American flag on Sept. 11, though the exact time and location haven’t been determined, a church spokeswoman said.

The burning would occur the same day that a Florida pastor had threatened to burn Qur’ans, which drew condemnation from President Obama, religious leaders and others.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, who announced Westboro Baptist’s plan, said they don’t think that pastor, Terry Jones, will carry out the burning.

Another publicity hound.

Burning both because they can’t decide who they hate more. Next up, they’ll drown some puppies.

Hey, Shirley! Why don’t ya soak the flag and the Koran in gasoline. Then toss the flag over your shoulder, sort of like a Buddhist monk’s robe. Then sit crosslegged on the ground. It makes flicking your Bic easier.

Why the American Flag?

Because the Westboro freaks are America-hating a**holes who cheer when our soldiers are killed. (The Dove people in Florida are supporters of them and have marched with them). These are the nuts that protest at our soldier's funerals.

Why the American Flag?

You must not be familiar with Fred Phelps and his crew. They're the ones that picket soldier funerals and have the website godhatesamerica.com. That's why they'll burn a U.S. flag.

As to why they'll burn either one to begin with, there's apparently a relationship between Westboro and the group in Florida. Media whores of a feather, flock together, that kind of thing.

Why can’t the media just ignore these guys, if they only did that, they’d go away.

That’s why Petraeus was an idiot for even mentioning these guys, all he did was to give them the publicity which they craved.

The most irritating thing about these clowns is the fact that they get the attention and the ground zero Mosque imam is issuing threats without being challenged.

Our leaders are complete idiots. My respect for Petraeus has dropped considerably since his “statement” about Koran burnings endangering the troops. We don't live in a police state. People can do all kinds of stupid things, like burn Bibles, put a crucifix in a jar of urine and burn a Koran. It is the leaders and media who create danger for our troops by highlighting it.

So because Obama and his flunkies in the cabinet can't keep their mouths shut, every nut in this country has a headline. WBC is making a point that they are burning another Koran... meaning they did it before and no one cared. Is Obama going to send the FBI to WBC? Just what we need - WBC getting more attention....

How ironic that O'Reily said last night why didn't Obama comment on WBC's insensitivity for protesting at military funerals but commented on the Koran Burning... WILL OBAMA be on the record criticizing WBC for Koran burning but NOT critisizing protesting at Military funerals...WHAT A MORON!

Well all this quran burning is a little bit overhyped.
(Not that i think it should be done but anyway).
I mean if i want to see a burning quran all i have to do is to type in “quran burn” and i can choose between a hell of a lot clips where someone burns it. It´s not like this has never been done before.

I know.

Koran = book, considered a religious ‘text’ by Muslims.

American flag = a symbol of freedom and the US.

Logically, Muslims should burn a Bible, not the flag. Killing or threatening to kill someone over it means burning => killing. Therefore, there is absolutely no correlation to any deductive or inductive logic that justifies the actions either of the Muslims, Rauf, or the American media.

Note the logic here and replace it with appropriate wording for current events. I’m trying to put words to how Wikipedia has presented the forms of logic:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductive_reasoning

“Statistical syllogism
A statistical syllogism proceeds from a generalization to a conclusion about an individual.

A proportion Q of population P has attribute A.
An individual X is a member of P.

Therefore:
There is a probability which corresponds to Q that X has A.
The proportion in the first premise would be something like “3/5ths of”, “all”, “few”, etc. Two dicto simpliciter fallacies can occur in statistical syllogisms: “accident” and “converse accident”.

Simple induction
Simple induction proceeds from a premise about a sample group to a conclusion about another individual.

Proportion Q of the known instances of population P has attribute A.
Individual I is another member of P.
Therefore:
There is a probability corresponding to Q that I has A.
This is a combination of a generalization and a statistical syllogism, where the conclusion of the generalization is also the first premise of the statistical syllogism.

Argument from analogy
Main article: False analogy
Some philosophers believe that an argument from analogy is a kind of inductive reasoning.

An argument from analogy has the following form:

I has attributes A, B, and C
J has attributes A and B
So, J has attribute C”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductive_reasoning

I am having a hard time finding any logic or fallacy that explains things accurately. Help!

It's the heavyweight pariah championship bout. Let's get ready to rumble! I hope it's a draw, and they both burn a mountain of Korans. I didn't think this was a good idea, and I still don't. But because it has been made such a big deal, and because it whips the savages into a whirlwind of rage, it now wouldn't bother me if there were a Koran burning that could be seen from orbit.
