Pa. Homeland Security Document Talks Of Possible 'Environmental Extremists'

PITTSBURGH -- An intelligence bulletin from the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security is circulating on the Internet, and it quotes the FBI as saying that "environmental extremists" are likely to become an increasing threat to energy companies.

Gov. Ed Rendell's press secretary, Gary Tuma, confirmed to Channel 4 Action News on Thursday that the document is real.

"Five acts of vandalism over the last two weeks," Tuma said. "Two of those involved firearms -- firing of shotguns that put holes in equipment at Marcellus Shale drilling sites."

He cited incidents of trespassing, theft and vandalism, including shots fired at Marcellus Shale gas drilling equipment in Venango County.

"It doesn't level any accusations. It merely alerts people that there have been acts of vandalism -- two of which, I'll point out, have included firearms -- and that people should be alert for it," Tuma said.

Long-range sniper fire or worse aimed at a natural gas distribution main? Oh no what are you, a paranoiac? You think we have enemies? It’s just another spark in the central fuel tank. Happens every once in awhile. It’s just divine retribution for our technological arrogance. Sorry folks. Nothing to see here. Just keep moving along.....

I'm dying to buy property and drill along the shale. If I did have property I would sit all day and night with gun in hand waiting for any nut to come on my property.

I can't blame people for being upset. I live in Bradford County PA and let me tell you...our quiet area is GONE! Thousands of white trucks with names like Chesapeake, Nomac and Chief etc. are now on our roads. There are HUNDREDS of huge water tankers sucking our creeks and the Susquehanna River down. There are diesel trucks of all kinds spewing crap in the air. Not to mention our underground aquifers and wells are being poisoned. We don't know what chemicals these companies use to “fracture” the gas well because it's a company “SECRET”! The truth is that our area was NOT ready for this. We don't have the infrastructure to accommodate all of this. The residual waste has to be taken to western PA or Ohio. I was and am all in favor of drilling BUT these gas companies are very dishonest! They sweet talk the people and then laugh behind their backs. They drill and then decide to put one well in a “unit” which spreads the compensation around even if the well never touched the other properties. AND the compensation doesn't seem like very much for all the trouble. Oh and once you've signed...they pretty much own your land. They do what they want! We've had a well top blown off by the methane that migrated into the water well in our area. I know someone who's pond looks like it's boiling but it's just methane coming up through the water. NOW the Susquehanna River has bubbles and PA DEP is looking into it. Chesapeake can't be sure their drilling caused it but how come none of this has happened before they drilled in the area? This is a sad state of affairs. The really sad part is that politicians of both parties don't care because there is going to be a severance tax put on gas and they are going get more MONEY TO SPEND! I just wish everyone including the gas companies would be HONEST but I doubt that will ever happen!

EnviroWhackos are doing their best to take down the Marcellus Shale Gas industry here before it really gets going. They are locked in a death struggle with Fast Eddie Rendell, who for once in his life is actually on the right side of an issue (if only because his eyes bug out when he starts to picture the revenue streams that this is gonna generate). So Fast Eddie is letting them have a little taste of their own “leak something, kick ‘em in the groin” liberal dirty tricks.
