NY-1: Demos Rush-es to Strong Primary Finish
National Review Online ^ | 9/9/2010 | Jack Fowler

Tuesday is primary day in the Empire State, and one of the big GOP battles is taking place out in Eastern Long Island over the right to take on four-term liberal incumbent Democrat Rep. Tim Bishop. Here’s the line-up:

[paraphrase: see article for details]

Randy Altschuler: formerly of the Green Party, considered a primary challenge to conservative NJ incumbent Rep. Scott Garrett

Ed Cox: Nixon son-in-law donated to Dede Scozzafava & Charlie Crist

And last but not least is the man who’s campaign got a huge lift this week from Rush Limbaugh, conservative George Demos. I like very much what I see — on the issues he is all there, and his resume (former SEC attorney) is impressive. Of major importance, Demos just got a full-throated, national endorsement from Limbaugh, who cited Demos’s status as “a literal Rush Baby.” Word is the race is neck-and-neck-and-neck down the home-stretch, but don’t be surprised if Rush’s praise pushes him over the finish line first on the 14th. Randy Altschuler got the Conservative Party endorsement so I'd assumed he was okay - but it doesn't sound good. Ed Cox is standard RINO fare.

Don't know much about George Demos but I'd suggest considering him strongly.

The Conservative party has gone off the rails this year. It’s almost as though they pulled the Hoffman stunt just so they could use the credibility they gained to get a bunch of slimy RINOs elected without being questioned. I don’t know about their guy in this race, but the Lazio endorsment just stinks to high heaven.

I heard Rush talk about him yesterday. He wrote a letter to Rush, and Rush put it in his newsletter in 1995, when Demos was 15 I think. He is a real Rush baby. Rush was at his best, talking about “settling” for rhinos. He said even though NR says Buckley would say vote for the most conservative who can win, Buckley supported Goldwater, then Reagan in 1976, someone else I can’t remember.

The Conservative party in NYS seems to have veered off course the past few years. In Nassau County the party chairman pushed through the endorsement of a liberal democrat for County Executive who later made him the Consumer Affairs Commissioner.

This seat never should have been lost. I did the research for GOP Congressman Butch Grucci the fireworks guy. We discovered Bishop had clearly used his position as Provost of Southampton College ( part of LIU) to smother and hide a rape on campus. The morons who were running the campaign used this item in early September which gave Bishop and the Democrat controlled Newsday plenty of time to turn the issue against Grucci. When he used it, Grucci was +20. He lost by 3 points. You figure it out. Sometimes a stupid consultant can lose a race that “can’t be lost.” Grucci was one of only two GOP incumbents to lose in 2002. as I said this seat never should have been lost. Now David Keene is backing Altschuler. Remember Keene is the guy who held up his ACU ratings for 8 months to find a way to give Senior Amnesty Mel Martinez a 100% ACU rating. We saw how well that worked out.
