I doubt it was a plane. I’ve been watching it for the last half hour from my back yard deck in South San Francisco, near 280 and 380 highways. The area is south of where regular flight paths originate from SFO. If a plane, it would have to be way off course.
Meteor?
San Bruno’s near the flight path of airliners taking off and landing to and from SF International.
huge explosion rocked San Bruno shortly after 6 p.m. today, sending up a massive fireball and a white and black plume of smoke that is visible for miles.
Television pictures of the blast site along Skyline Boulevard showed at least half a dozen houses on fire and trees in the neighborhood fully engulfed in a surging blaze.
San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies and police were evacuating residents near the fireball. Firefighters are going door to door, ordering people out of their houses and setting up equipment to battle the raging flames.
A San Bruno police dispatcher said she did not know what had exploded. Some of those interviewed on television are saying they heard and saw an airplane crash before the explosion.

Thread Bump.
They say no plane reported, but no one knows for sure yet ... it’s huge.
Its a plane according to a caller on CBSChannel5 SF.
a number of folks in the area reported the sounds of a plane, possibly a jet,, before explosion.. SFO and Oakland airports say they aren’t aware of any crashes or missing planes ..
the area covered is pretty large and still lots of flames..
