Merkel to honor Mohammed cartoonist at press award

German Chancellor Angela Merkel risked angering Muslims by speaking at an awards ceremony on Wednesday for a Dane whose cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed provoked sometimes violent protests by Muslims five years ago.

The 75-year-old cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, whose drawings of Mohammed that offended Muslims worldwide first appeared in Danish paper Jyllands-Posten in 2005, was due to receive a prize on Wednesday evening at a conference on freedom of the press.

At a time of fierce debate in Germany over disparaging remarks about Muslim immigrants made by a central bank member, some Muslims criticized the center-right chancellor and the media said she was taking a risk by honoring a man whom many Muslims believe insulted their faith.

Aiman Mazyek of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany said in a statement: "Merkel is honoring the cartoonist who in our view trampled on our Prophet and trampled on all Muslims."

"By having her photo taken next to Kurt Westergaard, Merkel is taking a huge risk," wrote the conservative daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung before the ceremony.

"It will probably be the most explosive appointment of her chancellorship so far."

“It will probably be the most explosive appointment of her chancellorship so far.”

I hope it won’t be the last, either.

Mohammed cartoonist says his drawing will never die
By Simon Sturdee (AFP) – 1 hour ago

POTSDAM, Germany — A Danish cartoonist who received death threats for a caricature of Mohammed with a bomb for a turban said Wednesday, as he was honoured in Germany, that his drawing would never die.

"Maybe they will try to kill me and maybe they will have success, but they cannot kill the cartoon," Kurt Westergaard told reporters at an event in Potsdam, near Berlin, attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He also said a clash between Islam -- he called it a "reactionary religion" -- and Western culture was inevitable and that his cartoon, one of 12 first published in a Danish newspaper in 2005, was merely a "catalyst."

"I do not regret (the cartoon) because I am absolutely sure that this clash ... between two cultures would have happened sooner or later," he said. "The cartoon became a catalyst."

She may anger Muslims but she’ll be a heroine for the vast majority of Germans who are sick of Muslims eating up resources and demanding they change their culture in favor of barbarism. Don’t push the Germans too far - bad things happen.

Doesn’t take much to anger that bunch! They are already programmed to hate Christians and Jews, so they blow up at the slightest provocation.
Draw a picture - kill a few Christians
Pope quotes a medieval philosopher - kill a few priests and nuns
Burn a book - explode in violent rage

In fact, it looks like their normal mode of living is violent rage.

Why don’t we have people with balls like that in power?

Our leaders didn't have to grow up under an oppressive communist dictatorship like Merkel did. They still believe the fairy tale of the paradise communism could be.

Let’s see if the same people who are on the Koran burning thread show-up here to excoriate Merkel for trying to stir-up trouble.

There is honor in Germany!

Time to stand up to the muzzies once and for all.

Won’t be the first time a woman has led the way.
