No nets, no ropes and yes, no permission.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - San Francisco police shut down Mission Street Monday afternoon because of a man scaling a South of Market skyscraper without ropes or permission, a police spokesman said.

Dan Goodwin, 54, was climbing the Millennium Tower at 301 Mission St. since about 2:15 p.m., police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

“The building is 58 stories tall. Shortly before 4 p.m., he was about halfway up,” Esparza said.

Mission Street was shut down between Fremont and Beale streets, and the fire department’s heavy rescue team was called in as a precaution.

Esparza said Goodwin ignored orders to stop climbing the building.

“We will have officers waiting for him at the top of the building to detain him pending further investigation,” Esparza said.

Esparza said he does not know what spurred the climb.
