A wildfire erupted this morning in Fourmile Canyon northwest of Boulder, destroying multiple homes and leading to widespread evacuation in the foothills — and igniting fears the blaze is headed toward the area burned by the Olde Stage Fire in January 2009.

The smoke from this fire can be seen south of Denver and as far north as the Wyoming border. Ash is falling on homes in Boulder, Erie, Lafayette, and Louisville. High winds are driving the fire east. We're hoping the winds die down as predicted. It's very dry here with no chance of rain for the next week. Air operations are suspended due to the winds.

Don’t know if either of you have or know of a CO ping list. I’m in Superior watching the smoke blanket Boulder. Winds have picked up again.

Maybe the smoke will drive away the Boulder hippies...wait, what am I thinking? They thrive in smoky environments.

Most of them are so stoned they probably haven’t realized that’s ash, not snow, falling on their heads.

Always nice to find humour in a bad situation. Here’s hoping it’s over quickly without loss of life.

I called my wife out several hours ago and said “do those clouds look strange?” We took a ride down the road where we could see better and I thought OMG! The wind is really blowing here right now.

Why isn't this good news, instead of "fears"? Normally that would make it easier to fight, using previously cut access and lines, plus less available fuels.

Prayers for those in the path of this fire as well as those fighting it.

The owners of those homes on fire emitting carbon and CO2 should be taxed.

I had the same OMG moment about 11. Had just dropped my daughter off at work and turned back to home and saw the smoke, WHOA. Had only been burning about an hour and the smoke was overwhelming. Thankfully it is just south of me with the winds pushing the smoke south. The pollen has been bad enough on my asthma, the smoke might be the straw, so to speak.

Air tankers are just taking off, winds have died down enough. 7 news has had some video of homes burning, woman talking about her home burning down.

I was out hiking with my boys (No where near the fire btw), the extent of the smoke plume is astounding. I hope the tankers can get it under control soon.

Many of the progressives have been seen stumbling ‘zombie-like’ toward the smoke.

“I had the same OMG moment about 11.”

They just said on the news that the humidity was 2% at the airport. I thought it was kind of muggy. :)

Has felt like home... NM. After being in the 30% humidity range most of the summer.

Boulder Dementia Syndrome (BDS) is a root cause of such disasters. When habitat is managed by faulty premises inherent in core legislative errors such as the Wilderness Act and the Endangered Species Act, one may safely assume the socialism infected on campus have sufficient of their graduates in the agencies to put into place regulations countering reasoned and prudent land/wildlife practices.

In the reasonably near future, look for an increase in the number of cougar trolling the streets of Boulder. These predators will not be late thirties to early uglies set, on heels and looking frat members.

I would expect to see an increase in the number of cougar skulking about on four very silent feet, prowling Boulder on the lookout for domestic animals to replace their food sources in the burned out habitats.

What goes around, comes around - this time hungrily.

Perhaps the BDS afflicted ‘cougar’ will meet the hungry cougar, some time as the bars close.

Cougar, meet Cougar.
