Lost Jobs Chart (Do Expected Election Results Foretell Firings/Hirings?)

The chart above, apparently released by Claire McCaskill, purports to show how things got better under Hussein. I want to draw your attention to the last four months before Hussein seized power in January of 2009. True, it was during Bush's tenure, but the chart does NOT show what was happening in a societal context.

The handwriting was pretty much "on the wall" by September of 2008, was it not? Obama was on his way to seizing power, and businesses KNEW it. Before he was able to officially TAKE office, they shed jobs. (Think about this: if the "hope and change" Obama was boasting about was REALLY in the air, then businesses would not have been so anxious to cut jobs.)

I say the men and women who hire and fire were concerned about Hussein's actions once in office. And the mass layoffs and jobs lost between September or October of 2008 and January of 2009 were reflective of that worry.

Flash forward!

Now, let's look at the latest numbers: August of 2009, we see that businesses ADDED 67,000 private jobs. Not great, but a good uptick. What about this month? If more JOBS in the private sector are added this month, will it be the case that businesses see that there will be a possible curb to Hussein's autocracy? That is, are we seeing some optimism BASED on a possible/probable Republican Congress.

KEYWORDS: bush; jobs; obama; unemployment
I offer this for discussion. I got in lots of arguments with liberals after the election, as I pointed out people losing jobs AFTER the election. Libs continued to bash Bush for it--even though the era of "Hopey Changey" was just around the corner.

Now I think the opposite is happening. People see Hussein's unchecked power ending, and so are willing to take a bit more of a risk.

thoughts?

I very much hope that the business community and America in general become more optimistic after November 2. That said, I’m also concerned that people will be disappointed and upset if a newly Republican-led Congress can’t instantly undo all the financial and cultural damage and change everything back to the happy golden days of the 1980s.

It would be useful to point out the point on that chart at which the donkeys took over Congress - it’s the House that writes the budget, not the President (except for the current regime, in which the House hasn’t even been able to pass anythng more than a continuing resolution).

Bottom line - employment went all to hell when the democrats got their hands on the Treasury.

Regarding the chart itself: If it included the latest three months of this year, it would have shown:

54,000 jobs lost in June, 171,000 lost in July, and 54,000 lost in August.

I don’t think Claire will be updating that chart anytime soon to show what a wonderful job Obama has done...
