Mass Extinction Threat: Earth on Verge of Huge Reset Button? (and it's all man's fault doncha know)
Yahoo News ^ | Thu Sep 2, 2:30 pm ET | Jeremy Hsu

Mass extinctions have served as huge reset buttons that dramatically changed the diversity of species found in oceans all over the world, according to a comprehensive study of fossil records. The findings suggest humans will live in a very different future if they drive animals to extinction, because the loss of each species can alter entire ecosystems.

Some scientists have speculated that effects of humans - from hunting to climate change - are fueling another great mass extinction. A few go so far as to say we are entering a new geologic epoch, leaving the 10,000-year-old Holocene Epoch behind and entering the Anthropocene Epoch, marked by major changes to global temperatures and ocean chemistry, increased sediment erosion, and changes in biology that range from altered flowering times to shifts in migration patterns of birds and mammals and potential die-offs of tiny organisms that support the entire marine food chain

When science becomes emotional, it's time to hit the skepticism button. The article suggests that this has been an ongoing feature of life on Earth, but now it's all mankind's fault and/or we could stop all extinction if we put our minds to it.

Scientists today must take a megalomania course just prior to hooding.

Some scientists have speculated...

True scientists don't speculate.

Mass Extinction Threat: Earth on Verge of Huge Reset Button?

I always thought that the story of Chicken Little was a children's story . . . . . . . NOT something concocted by Yahoo News.

These leftists are like little girls who run around screaming on the playground. First it this icky thing then it’s that gross thing. Really, I laugh at how utterly foolish these people are.

It seems to me the earth had had ‘reset’ buttons punched before before man walked the earth. Man didn’t contribute to the extinction of dinosaurs....man didn’t cause the mammoths to become extinct, man didn’t cause a strip of land from Texas all the way to Canada to be under water. Britain was a tropical jungle at one time, Britain was connected to Europe, I forget how many years ago.

A lot of this planet’s behaviors simply cannot be influenced by mankind. Why do so called ‘scientists’ ignore that?

Eventually, We are all going to die but the some, namely lefties, seem more terrified of it then others.

If it is my die to go, so be it. Enjoy life, prepare for the next and rid yourself of the fear of death.

When these people go off to set up their own little survival community that is self sustaining, no electricity, no carbon based fuels, then I might take them seriously.

Uhhhh, hasn’t it been shown that environmental changes CAUSE mass extinctions? Earth turning into an ice planet caused some distress to life at the time. The earth covered in material from outer space 65 million years ago from an impact also had some effects on life I hear.

When these people start putting their money where their mouths are, and off themselves, then I might take them more seriously.

I believe they call it evolution. If they had their way, we would be running from dinosaurs today. There is a reason that some species thrive while others die out. It is called survival of the fittest. I agree we do not need to hurry things along, but as some of these species die out, others begin to thrive.

Grant money?
I think you're right. The author used the D-word in his first sentence. That ought to stir up the wackos.
