Gov. Bill Richardson has announced furloughs and layoffs will be avoided in the latest round of state budget-cutting, which takes effect today.
Richardson's office just sent out a news release in which the two-term Democratic governor said he'll use $1.4 million in federal stimulus money under his control to help executive and judicial branch agencies avoid furloughs.

So bascially. The porkulous money that was diverted to us is going to be given to state employees so that they don’t have to sacrifice like the rest of us are. Nice.
Stimulus to prop up the same bureaucracy that can’t sustain itself. Richardson is the problem here. Lets hope Susana Martinez wins. She has a nice lead now.
Richardson could balance the NM budget by reducing his kitchen staff.
Bill should be made to spend a day waiting to get service at a DMV. ...Everyone is budget cutting, yet I noticed a new traffic light in my little community, one that makes no sense, but it sits along the “restoring America” route where everyone has to slow down to see it.
Some “stimulus”
Government employees should have been the first area to cut
Efficiencies plus cost savings
Oh, but we DO have a brand new beautiful bike bridge that crosses the Rio Grande along I-40 that I have yet to see anyone using.
Haha, I think I have been over that bridge 4 times. The last Mayor thought he could run his campaign on that accomplishment and it didn’t turn out to well.
Not only will he be using the FED stimulus money to prop up the states budget shortfall and to satisfy the unions but he will be pushing the problem down the road for the next administration to deal with. You can bet that each agency will be asking for a supplement to this years budget during the next Legislative session.
Susanna Martinez will put a stop to that. I hope.
Very astute Rogle,
It is happening all over the country.
Use stimulus money to pay workers this year.
Next year the money won’t be there to bail these municipalities or whatever out and the pubbies will be in charge of the congress and will take the heat when these gub mint boobs lose their jobs next year.
That too paid for with “stimulus” money?
1.4 million -- That (plus insurance) would about pay for the repairs to the RR bridge outside Chama that burnt down in June. The fire isolated Chama from the rest of the line and the town is hurting.
Since Denish can’t shake the Richardson connection, he couldn’t very well furlough state workers this close to the election. Who would they get to steal votes? I mean those people have to actually have paying jobs to be given time off from during the election ...
Scandalous! And now I suppose those go under the “jobs saved” column too!
What’s really bizarre was that I was driving and heard an ad on the radio and at the end it said: “this advertisement has been paid for by the _ _ _ _”
The blanks being whatever the official name is for the stimulus - American Reinvestment something something I think it’s called.
All I could think of was why are stimulus dollars being used for radio ads?
