Bedbugs are infesting U.S. households on a scale unseen in more than a half a century, and homeowners and apartment dwellers are taking desperate measures to eradicate the bloodsuckers, with some relying on dangerous outdoor pesticides and fly-by-night exterminators.
The problem has gotten so bad that the Environmental Protection Agency warned this month against the indoor use of chemicals meant for the outside. The agency also warned of an increase in pest-control companies and others making "unrealistic promises of effectiveness or low cost."
Ohio authorities, struggling against widespread infestations in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and other cities, are pleading with the EPA to approve the indoor use of the pesticide propoxur, which the agency considers a probable carcinogen and banned for in-home use in 2007. About 25 other states are supporting Ohio's request for an emergency exemption.
Also, exterminators have fewer weapons in their arsenal than they did just a few years ago because of a 1996 Clinton-era law that requires older pesticides to be re-evaluated based on more stringent health standards. The re-evaluations led to the restrictions on propoxur and other pesticides.

Am I misinformed, but doesn’t DDT kill bedbugs?
What are the effective means to kill bedbugs?
DDT kills bedbugs and it is banned.
propoxur is banned for use inside homes
“DDT kills bedbugs and it is banned.
propoxur is banned for use inside homes”
So the EPA has left us defenseless against bedbug onslaught? WOW
As others have posted on numerous threads, I don’t think it will be too long before the DDT ban gets a “reconsideration”.
Libsucks don’t give a fart in hell about African and Asian deaths due to Malaria or Dengue Fever, but bedbugs in THEIR jammies is a completely different subject.
You watch. I am sure that right now a liberal think tank is looking for a way to reverse the onus on DDT so it can be brought back into production.
I give it less than two months before it will be available again.
Bedbugs are just “undocumented pets”.
That being the case, I would like to send them to all CommieCrates nationwide.
I say we start a campaign, catch all the bedbugs you can find box them up and mail them to congress or the EPA...
send them to john mcpains houses too
I’ll bet these pesticides can be found in Mexico. Getting them back across the border may be tricky though.

Prediction: Obama will have a press conference on this latest epidemic by Friday.
I think that's too optimistic. I'm afraid DDT will have to wait until someone comes up with something that kills liberals.
Had one of my rentals hit by these bastards. People lived like pigs and drug in a used mattress. Cost over $1000 to exterminate a three bedroom. Exterminator said they are back again due to all the non English speaking people in the country living in unclean conditions. Made sense to me.
Thank you Rachel Carson.
Don’t let the bedbugs bite.
I always wondered why meth cookers, and others who manufacture drugs don't do something useful like produce mirex and DDT. They could expand their customer base.
One of the most overlooked costs of illegal immigration is the public health sector.
Here in Texas, there has actually been some cholera reported in the colonias.
We're asking for trouble...

Who is the artist and what was the name of the song?
Don’t freak out... we are NOT defenseless against bedbugs. The reason they are spreading is because 1.) people are not expecting them, and are theretofore not applying enough common-sense precautions (washing clothes, sufficient cleaning of cracks in the home, etc.) and 2.)bedbugs’ own resistance to previously effective treatments.
Bedbugs are still beatable! You will have to call an exterminator, just as if you had termites, Read all about it here:

If you had termites, carpenter ants, or any other sort of destructive, invasive insects, you would expect to call an exterminator. The same is true for bedbugs! Call a pro! (No, I have no skin in the extermination game.)
