Obama calls former President George W. Bush ahead of Iraq speech

President Barack Obama called former President George W. Bush Tuesday hours before he was set to deliver an Oval Office speech on the drawdown of U.S. troops from Iraq, the White House said.

Obama made the call aboard Air Force One on his way to Ft. Bliss, Tex., where he will visit U.S. troops.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said the “private” call lasted “a few minutes,” but declined to give further detail.

Obama telephoned Bush in February 2009 before announcing his plans for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs refused Monday to say whether Obama’s speech would give credit to the former president for his decision to send a surge of U.S. troops to Iraq. The surge is widely acknowledged to have contributed to a decrease in violence in the country.

Gibbs said there was a “whole host of factors” that contributed to the increased security situation, and said Obama “always believed” security would improve by increasing the number of troops. Obama opposed the surge strategy as a senator.

Notice it was “he called” and not “he spoke with”?

“His Highness Lord Obama graciously offers the former president the high honor of congratulating him publically for finally straightening out the mess you left him in Iraq.”

“George, I just wanted to tell you how grateful the nation is for this victory in Iraq. And as to opposing your successful surge plan, I was simply wrong, wrong, wrong. I hope you will accept my sincerest apology, and it will start with my public admission that I simply did not know what I was doing as a Senator. Thank you.”

My guess is the call never happened.

Just a trial balloon story to see how the media reacts. Hopefully, to give he cover for tonight’s clip art speech.

"Obama telephoned Bush in February 2009 before announcing his plans for withdrawing troops from Iraq."

Errrr... the withdrawal plans were set forth by Bush through two different security agreements singed with Iraq in December of 2008! Obama hasn't done jack-squat regarding Iraq.

Not only did Obama oppose the surge, he even said he would STILL oppose it after a reporter outlined its’ success to him....I HAVE IT ON VIDEO...the reported said (paraphrase):

“Give the success of the surge, would you still oppose it?”

“YES” was his answer.

The GOP should be running ads of that answer.

Since Obama is congenitally incapable of doing anything honorable or decent, W must have had something he needed.

I'm thinking it was to tell W to cease and desist in his efforts to greet the troops when they arrive home.

W is stealing Obama's stolen glory (stolen from Bush in the first place)!

The fact that he had to call Bush is Bush's fault. If Bush would have solved everyone problems there would be no such a mess today.
