On Monday morning, Thomas Richard Cowan loaded 13 bullets into two handguns, left his German shepherd chained to the fence and drove eight miles from his home in Kingsport to Sullivan Central High School. Whatever his mission, it was the 62-year-old Vietnam veterans final drive.
...
Cowan trained a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol at Ridens face, said Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson. Carolyn Gudger, the school resource officer, drew her gun, then shielded the principals body with her own.

Here is a stupid question, are the doors of all the high schools in the US locked during school hours?
Our local high school doors are lcked.
You have to get “buzzed in”.
That way not just anyone can walk right in. Smart, IMO.
“I have found that if I use a double layer of the Kroger heavy-duty aluminum foil”
That’s the cheap cr*p. Go to a restaurant supply house like Ace Mart. They are all over the country.
Get their: http://www.acemart.com/kitchen-supplies/cookware/aluminum-cookware/aluminum-braziers/heavy-duty-aluminumclassic-selectbrazier-vol68215/prod7058.html
ITEM NO: VOL68215
“Vollrath’s 15 qt Brazier is made of heavy duty, impact resistant 1/4” 3004 aluminum. The brazier’s double-thick walls stands up to the tough knocks of a commercial kitchen. Its double-thick bottom heats more evenly than other metals. The brazier’s smooth surface is easy to clean. The heavy duty, solid welded aluminum handles are durable and factory tested tough”
You can make a chin strap and attach it to the handles.
Also works great if you ever get caught out in a hail storm. ;-)
Here of the day.
they didnt go to his house and shoot the dog too...wow...
you post and initiate the negative commentary, dont cry when ya get it...
And then she performed the brilliant tactical move of,
a) not opening fire and,
b) leading the gunman deeper into the school
He should have been shot dead before the police ever got there.
JMO.
I like to call police, and the courts the welfare/section 8/public housing of security. It’s a loser, expensive, poor quality.....system. Basically a jobs program. Reading the article about this guy, the passivity people now take, are force to be passive by the security bureaucracy. In the old days this guys would of at a minimum, long before leading up to this event, been beaten, if not shot and killed by fellow citizens. Which I would of supported, and still do, and is more so supported now a days with the various castle and stand your ground laws pushed for by citizens, and opposed by the security bureaucracy.
In this case the courts, and ‘the system’ failed in not educating this guy despite many previous encounters with the ‘professionals’.
I thought the resource lady was crazy not to gun this guy down. Post Beslin/Columbine any one with a gun should live five seconds. But maybe she sensed something, which I believe, that the guy was what I call ‘decisionally crazy’. That is he was gaming the system. Odd how these guys never try to have a stand off in a biker bar, or cop bar. Always it is the official no-gun zone with the weakest.
Get rid of Police departments, free the citizens to protect themselves and their property, and cull and educated via killing, the stupid and those that have free will chosen to be criminals.
Its not “cops” that draw the ire. Its Big Brother wannabes.
The cops that are not liked:
Speed Trap Cops
DEA/SWAT that shoot dogs on a bust of a guy with marijuana
FBI agents who shoot kids, wives, and dogs of the person they set up
FBI agents that shoot you in your own farm for smoking marijuana and holding festivals
FBI agents who set a religious compound on fire during a raid to “protect the children”
Those are the bad ones. There are plenty of good ones too.
Cops that catch murderers
Cops that catch thieves
FBI agents that catch terrorists
Too hard to get the Brazier on while driving. ;-)
BTW, can I get a suitable helmet liner for the Brazier?
Odd this wasn’t major national news /sarc I guess only news in which people are harmed by guns is news to the MSM. Events like this just cause them needless cognitive dissonance.
Paul-haters and jackboot-lickers tend to be synonymous, too.
Would like some confirmation that he is a Vietnam Vet. Or if it is the usual ‘all VN vets are lunatics’ meme.
Those of us who suffer mental problems are the most sensitive to the invasion of privacy, like canaries in a coal mine cage.Obviously Cowan was deranged to some extent, needed some form of intervention, but that was not to be.
He was obviously prepared to die for whatever twisted cause he had in his mind.
I blame our federal government and its increased unconstitutional warrantless invasion of our privacy and homes , for this tragedy. Those among us who are unbalanced have become the tragic victims of our government. This is not the first, if one can remember the individual acts of violence lately to the various government institutions such as the IRS , municiple offices and others over the last several years. Unfortunately schools are included as symbols of government authority in this list, in the minds of the deranged.
With any luck, perhaps we will obtain the truth about what it was that Cowan wanted. Cowan said, “10 years?” I would be most interested to know what his motive was, and what it was that touched him off. Maybe Gudger will enlighten us with the truth. But somehow, the truth likely will be spun so that Cowan will be revealed as dirty white trash, clinging bitterly to his bible and guns, and I for one will not believe a word of it.
Thank goodness that no one else was injured or killed.
Since the officer is a black female, we don’t have to worry about BO claiming she acted “stupidly”. Hopefully she will be on Fox news—it would just be icing on the cake if she is a conservative.
Whole lot of trauma all around.
Kids, faculty and police officers all were afraid.
Kids know a guy got shot and they now are anxious. Teachers too.
Cops had to shoot a guy even though it was a good shoot. You know they have to live with this forever.
Nobody wins here, only it was a good response as only the perp got what he deserved for bringing a loaded gun to a school.
The spin factor on this story and on any follow up promises to be very high. She had a gun, and should have used it immediately.
Hardly brilliant.Stupid more like. She obviously thought Cowan would not pull the trigger. A very stupid assumption. Stand off = you're dead. She is a very lucky woman.
The left will get all woosey over this story. She should have dropped him in his tracks as soon as she saw the gun, or when Cowan lunged for hers , as reported.Did Cowan and Gudger know each other before this incident? Weird!
“Anybody that loads up and heads for a school needs to visit his maker.
“
Dittos. We no longer seem to want to kill murderers, child molesters, rapists, etc. We seem to want to study them and get to know them. I want them dead.
Now say "baaaaaaaaaaaa."
Wonder what would happen if you just refused to put your head on the desk in the dark? Would anyone even notice? And how dark is it in there in 2nd period?
By killing him just the one time?
If anything, I think the resource officer should have just dropped him when he first pointed his gun at the Principal. Dancing with him into the school where at any point some student could have walked into the situation in my opinion escalated the danger of the situation. Of course, I wasn't there and it is easy to second-guess when reading an account of the situation.
