Media strives to cover D.C. rally with ‘Honor’

Yesterday’s huge rally posted a slight conundrum for TV news: how to cover an event on the National Mall headlined by Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, Fox News’ two right-wing megastars? The outcome was fair and balanced - more or less.

CNN rarely identified its rival network’s ties to the “Restoring Honor” rally, sometimes identifying Beck simply as a “conservative commenter.” It also cut short its coverage of Palin’s speech.

((snip))

Only staid C-SPAN really took a side. The private, nonprofit broadcaster aired the Glenn Beck rally live all morning, only broadcasting the National Action Network rally later in the afternoon.

I like that Al Charlatan’s high school rally was taped and played later.

If a tree fell in the forest and the media chose not to cover it, would it make a sound?

Republicans should NEVER discuss Sharpton without mentioning Tawana Brawley. EVER.

I know CNN referred to it as a Tea Party rally but it was not a political rally - no signs, no party affiliations. They tried their best to make Sharpton's little "its all about race" rally seem just as big as the Restoring Honor rally.

And they still wonder why they keep losing viewers.

Never refer to him by any name other than “Tawana Sharpton”.

Who cares what the MSM does or doesn’t do? Nobody watches/listens to them anyway.

Freddie’s Fashion Mart

In 1995, a black Pentecostal Church, the United House of Prayer, which owned a retail property on 125th Street, asked Fred Harari, a Jewish tenant who operated Freddie’s Fashion Mart, to evict his longtime subtenant, a black-owned record store called The Record Shack. Sharpton led a protest in Harlem against the planned eviction of The Record Shack.[45][46][47] Sharpton told the protesters, “We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business.”[48]

On December 8, 1995, Roland J. Smith Jr., one of the protesters, entered Harari’s store with a gun and flammable liquid, shot several customers and set the store on fire. The gunman fatally shot himself, and seven store employees died of smoke inhalation.[49][50] Fire Department officials discovered that the store’s sprinkler had been shut down, in violation of the local fire code.[51] Sharpton claimed that the perpetrator was an open critic of himself and his nonviolent tactics. Sharpton later expressed regret for making the racial remark, “white interloper,” and denied responsibility for inflaming or provoking the violence.[13][52]

I watched the Live Stream from Glenn's Facebook Pgae. There were 130,000 viwers right there at the peak. And next to me, I had C-Span on the TV with the sound down and they showed the crowd.

If there wasn't over 600,000 there then I'm blind. Crowd went from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument and that distance ain't a chip shot. Not even for Tiger's ex wife.(bada-bing, rimshot)

Indeed. They should have asked if Tawana Brawley had been invited to Sharpton's rally.

This one ought to make libs hair fall out.

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (R) shakes hands with conservative US radio and television commentator Glenn Beck as she arrives to speak at a rally dubbed "Restoring Honor," organized by Beck, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. "It is so humbling to get to be here with you today, patriots. You who are motivated and engaged and concerned, knowing to never retreat," Palin said. (AFP/Nicholas Kamm)
