Obama says Iraq war is ending, his promise is kept Photo 6:07am EDT

By Jeff Mason

VINEYARD HAVEN, Massachusetts (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Saturday Iraq could "chart its own course" and told Americans the drawdown of U.S. troops helped fulfill a promise he made during the 2008 presidential campaign.

Obama, who is vacationing on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard, declared in his weekly radio and Internet address that "the war is ending" and pledged to take care of troops who are returning home.

The U.S. military recently cut its strength to under 50,000 troops in Iraq, helping to make good on Obama's promise to end the war launched 7-1/2 years ago by his Republican predecessor, George W. Bush.

Obama's Saturday remarks may be a preview of a rare, televised address the president plans on Tuesday evening from the White House Oval Office about the troop drawdown.

"On Tuesday, after more than seven years, the United States of America will end its combat mission in Iraq and take an important step forward in responsibly ending the Iraq war," Obama said.

"As a candidate for this office, I pledged I would end this war. As president, that is what I am doing."

The man-child has lied about everything else. Why worry about keeping this particular promise?

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi prime minister put his nation on its highest alert for terror attacks, as insurgents hammer Iraqi security forces preparing to take over for a U.S. combat mission that formally ends on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Iraqi intelligence indicated that an Al Qaeda front group and members of Saddam Hussein’s outlawed Baath party are collaborating to launch attacks “to create fear and chaos and kill more innocents.”

What he promised over and over again while campaigning was that he would remove the troops on the day he was elected.

The narcissist can’t even keep his pie hole shut on vacation.
Then he takes credit for plans that the military and his predecessor made?
Dictator Obama needs to be dethroned.
He’s nauseating....

What he promised over and over again while campaigning was that he would remove the troops on the day he was elected.

Not only is this ignored still, but at the time, no one in the lamestream had the thought to inquire how he planned to do so when he would have no power as president-elect.

I know, I know, the double-standard, but it still makes me livid-crazy, the stuff they let the left get away with while conservatives would be lambasted with that kind of campaign rhetoric.

Democrats won majorities in the mid-term election in 2006 to get us out of Iraq, and we’re still in Iraq, 2010. I don’t see it.

I don’t suppose he will mention that the withdrawal and timetable was negotiated and signed by both the Iraq and U.S. administrations during the BUSH Administration. ...Maybe when pigs fly.

"On Tuesday, after more than seven years, the United States of America will end its combat mission in Iraq and take an important step forward in responsibly ending the Iraq war," Obama said. "As a candidate for this office, I pledged I would end this war. As president, that is what I am doing."

On 25 June, 1940, Philippe Petain surrendered and "ended the war" between Nazi Germany and France. FDR understood the difference between ending a war and winning the war, and he chose the responsible but in the short term costly option of winning that war. In the long run, I hope that will prove worth the cost, although with Obama's socialists in power the end result may be the same as if Hitler's national socialists had won.

Didn't zero have an "official" seal for the "Office of the President-elect"?
