Anna C. Little, Republican candidate for the House in New Jersey's 6th District, took sharp issue with statements made by Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ-6) in his constituent newsletter about the effects of the healthcare-reform bill passed last March.
In a press release dated July 15, Little accused Pallone of "lying to the people on their dime" in his latest edition of his newsletter, Constituent Update, which is sent to 6th District residents as "franked" mail, sent with the congressman's signature in lieu of a postage stamp and thereby mailed at taxpayer expense.
The contents of Constituent Update do not appear on Pallone's House Web page. According to Little, Pallone first denied the widespread perception that healthcare reform will lead to rationing of care by bureaucratic order. "[R]eform takes insurance company executives out of the decision making process for your family," Pallone is reported to have said--but Pallone has said nothing, at least on the Internet, about whether "Health Czar" Donald Berwick, in his role as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will have a role, and indeed the lead role, in that "decision making process." President Barack Obama appointed Berwick to the vacant position while the Congress was last in recess. Pallone is also reported to have said, simply, "We can afford healthcare reform," in apparent response to the often-quoted expense figures for the program.
Little took issue with both statements, saying, "[T]he vast majority of people would rather make their health care decisions after consultation with their doctor than with a government bureaucrat."
Little observed that a lack of competition among insurance companies--chiefly by laws forbidding insurance providers to sell health insurance across state lines--is a major culprit in making health insurance, and health care, expensive. She touted her own alternative proposals, among them:
* Tort reform, to reduce the need for "defensive medicine," typically the ordering of expensive tests, or even entire clinical procedures, that might not be strictly clinically indicated. * Allowing insurers to sell insurance policies across State lines. * Aggressive investigation and prosecution of Medicare and Medicaid fraud, possibly saving 20 percent of current costs by this measure alone. * Restricting subsidized health care to citizens and lawful residents. * Encourage the opening of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). * Removing all antitrust exemptions currently granted to insurers.
Little also challenged the notion of the program's affordability, saying that taxpayers would bear an unbearable burden, and the quality of care would suffer. "Reckless taxing and spending has created a staggering 14 trillion dollar federal debt and a 1.5 trillion dollar budget deficit, both of which are clearly unsustainable," she said. "Government has overstepped its bounds, and must be turned back. No more bailouts and corporate welfare; we will not borrow and spend our way to prosperity. I support a balanced budget amendment and the elimination of earmarks and pork barrel spending."
Little also pointed out that Members of Congress are exempt from the plan, and therefore far less able to judge whether their constituents "can afford" the plan than they might pretend.
"The current health insurance bills written by Frank Pallone, proposed by both chambers of Congress and signed by the Obama Administration, should be opposed under any circumstance as they will effectively socialize our entire health care insurance and medical delivery system and will ultimately create a single payer government run healthcare system
These provisions will bankrupt businesses and increase the double digit unemployment rate in NJ", said Little.

The race in NJ-6 is heating up. Internal polling has 11-term Democrat incumbent Frank Pallone at only 40%, indicating major weakness going into the Fall campaign.
The Club for Growth has NJ-6 as "In Play"...
Anna Little is The Real Deal. She's "Tea Party Approved", and has the right positions on taxes, spending, limited government, 2A and Life.
Deficit Hawk
Balanced Budget Amendment
Against the Bailouts
Repeal Obamacare...
What’s not to love?
I am a conservative woman hear me ROAR!
Oh, yeah. Little takes no prisoners.
She calls ‘em as she sees ‘em, and she doesn’t like what she sees...
Pallone will steal it. He is too wired in with family and friends. It will have to be a blowout for Little to win.
It will have to be a blowout for Little to win
little can count on six votes from my family...
A blowout may be what we get. Chris Christie won this District by over 12% just last November.
Can you think of anybody who is all charged up about going down to the polls to vote for Pallone?
And Anna Little has been around the block a few times. She has been in five elections, and won all of them. She's not going to let Pallone get away with any dirty tricks.
You gotta love these Gerrymandered districts. What does Plainfield have to do with Asbury Park? (Other than the obvious)
That district is nearly as bizarrely shaped as Democrat Mel Watt’s district in NC. http://www.watt.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=27§iontree=27
Shouldn’t there be a law against creating congressional districts that are 6-10 times as long as they are wide? Talk about gerrymandering!
She’s for my district. Monmouth County has a very active tea party (Bay Shore Chapter) actively working on the ground for Little.
I think the enthusiasm of the Tea Partiers is going to be the difference in a lot of races this Fall. The incumbent democrats are thinking (hoping) that this is a run-of-the-mill, low-turnout, midterm election. They are going to be very surprised how many people come out to vote against them.
And shocked by how few turn up to defend them.
Getting rid of him will be an unexpected bit of wonderfulness.
I haven’t seen your tagline in a long time... I thought you were dead!
I'm back!
I guess that means I best get right with God...
LOL! There’s a righteous wind of change blowing in! Look out!
I don't believe that for a nano second.
